A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA ESTABLISHING A NEW CLASSIFICATION OF LIBRARY
ASSISTANT AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY THEREFOR.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The class specifications of Library Assistant
are hereby adopted in its entirety in accordance with Exhibit A
attached and incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. The salary range for Library Assistant shall
be Range 140 ($ 1,207.30 - $ 1,467.47 per month).
ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 3rd day of March, 1986.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular
meeting thereof on the 3rd day of March, 1986, by the following
vote of the Council:

DEFINITION
City of Azusa
Adopted:
Under general supervision, to work at the reference desk; process
all inter -library loan requests; receive and return books,
periodicals and video cassettes; and related paraprofessional
assignments; and to perform work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a paraprofessional classification within the library
occupational series. Incumbents are expected to relieve
professional librarians from the more routine aspects of the day-
to-day activities associated with a public library system.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a professional librarian.
Some supervision may be exercised over library clerks, pages or
temporary employees.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Work at the reference desk, securing a variety of information for
patrons, checking out books and periodicals restricted to the
confines of the library and seeing that they are returned.
Search OCLC terminal for location of books, batch requests and
responses for transmission, transmit electronic mail information,
search catalog for incoming requests, and search microfiche
records for other locations of books not in OCLC.
Search shelves for books located in the catalog.
Receive items for the MCLS truck, return items and notify patrons
that their requests are available.
Record statistical information and file requests forms, send
statistical information to MCLS headquarters and California
State Library.
Organize and coordinate the video cassette library, check out and
check incoming rentals, and collect fees.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of•
Operating procedures and policies of a public library, including
the purpose and uses of the reference program.
Procedures for using computer terminal to access library
information.
Ability to•
Effectively deal with a variety of requests from patrons
concerning a myriad of information typically found in a public
library reference system.
Use a computer terminal and microfilm reader and find the
necessary information in a timely and efficient manner.
Work efficiently and effectively with patrons and co-workers.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would likely
provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A
typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th)
grade, supplemented by academic coursework that would
provide a better understanding of a public library and
its functions and programs.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time equivalent
experience performing general clerical and paraprofessional
work in a public library system.
