HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 81030 RESOLUTION NO. 8103 L A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ESTABLISHING A NEW POSITION OF UTILITIES ENGINEER. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The class specifications of Utilities Engineer are hereby adopted in its entirety in accordance with Exhibit A attached and incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 15th day of September, 1986. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof on the 15th day of September, 1986, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: ITY CLERK AVILA, COOK, LATTA, MOSES NONE CRUZ 0 0 CITY OF AZUSA date adopted: UTILITIES ENGINEER Definition Under general direction, to assist the Director of Utilities in managing contractual projects; monitor for and advise the department of the legal regulatory matters; and to complement the water and electric superinten- dents in system planning and engineering; and perform related duties as assigned. Distinauishina Characteristics This is a single -position class assigned to the Light and Water Department. Assignments are general and of a continuing nature requiring the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in handling a variety of profes- sional and technical engineering work. The incumbent is expected to perform the more complex engineering work. Supervision Received and Exercised General direction is provided by the Director of Utilities. May supervise other departmental employees when called upon or during the performance of a special project. Example of Duties - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Become familiar with and monitor all existing departmental contracts pertaining to power supply. Actively participate in the future contractural matters. Become familiar with and monitor existing and future litigations of this Department. Assist the Director in the long-range planning of the electric and water systems. Perform engineering studies such as fault analysis, voltage control, system protection, distribution analysis. Perform engineering economic analysis for cost of utility services, new resources, and other projects relating to power supply. Monitor regulatory matters that pertain to utility operation and advise the Director for implementation or compliance. Maintain and update electric and water system maps and master plans either through hard copies or the personal computer. Assist the electric and water superintendents in system planning and budgeting. Page 1 of 2 0 0 UTILITIES ENGINEER (cont.) Qualifications Knowledge of Principles and practices of electrical engineering as applied to the design and construction of an electrical power transmission and distribution system. Rules, regulations, and codes relevant to an electrical utility system. Principles and practices of supervision and budgeting. Engineering economics. "Basic" computer language. Fundamental knowledge in drafting. Ability to Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Perform technical electrical engineering work of a complex nature. Organize and plan work with minimum supervision. Apply available PC software in utility applications. Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work Education and Experience Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Experience Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in electrical utility or consulting engineering, including some administrative and supervisory experience. Education Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or uni- versity with major course work, preferably in electrical engineering. License or Certificate Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Page 2 of 2
