The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above time
and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Roll call.
City Attorney and City Clerk.
The minutes of the last regular meeting of
August 16, 1937 were read and approved as
read.

relative to advertising in the s Angeles* Communication read.
County Fair Edition of the Times, was read.
No action taken.
A communication signed by Alfred Jones,
County Surveyor., relative to checking of
Subdivision Maps, was read.
Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that the County
' Surveyor be formally designated to act for
the City of Azusa in checking the map against
the County Records and the general require-
ments of the State Lawry and the City Engineer
be authorized and instructed to sign the
enclosed form.

A communication signed by Richard Graves,
Executive Secretary for the League of
California Municipalities, relative to the
Digest of 1937 Legislation affecting
Municipalities, was read.
Moved and carried that the City Clerk be
authorized to order a copy of the Digest,
priced at $2.50 per copy, for the City
Attorney.
The City Clerk announced that she had
received one sealed bid, submitted by the
Burroughs Company, in answer to Notice
Calling for sealed bids for a billing
machine to be used in the Light and Water
Departments.

Councilman McIntire that the bid be now
opened, examined and publicly declared.

The City Clerk announced that she had received
petitions with 44 names attached thereto
protesting the re -zoning of Lot 28, Subdi-
vision #2, Azusa Land and Water Company Tract
from a residential zone to a heavy industrial
zone.
The Clerk also announced that she had
received four written protests in the above
mentioned matter.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman McIntire that the petitions and
written protests be accepted and placed on
file.

Dr. E. D. Cook addressed the Council request-
ing lights be installed in the park north of
the Library.
This request was referred to the Superinten-
dent of Light and Water.
Councilman Strohmeier offered an Ordinance
entitled:

COUNTY, CALIFORNIA AMENDING (SECTION 1-C)
(SECTION 1-D) AND ;SECTION 2) OF ORDINANCE NO.
326 OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA, RELATING TO
LICTi\?SING FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVENUE AND
REGULATION ALL AND EACH KIND OF BUSINESS
CARRIED ON IN SAID CITY AND PRESCRIBING THE
PENALTY FOR VIOLATION.

PROHIBITING PICKETING, LOITERING, ASSEMBLY-
ING, CARRYING OR DISPLAYING SIGNS OR
BANNERS OR SPEAKING IN A LOUD OR UNUSUAL
TONE IN PUBLIC STREETS, ALL.F'i'S OR SIDE-
WALKS IN THE CITY OF AZUSA AND PROVIDING
PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.

Street Superintendent, Arthur ffolfe reported
to the Council that nothing had been done on
the replacement of the spring board for the
swimming pool.
Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by
Councilman Chester that the City Clerk be
authorized and instructed to write Spaulding
Brothers requesting an explanation of their
apparent neglect.

' Mayor Carr reported that Mr. E. Malone
requested crossing guards for school children
at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and
San Gabriel Avenue between the hours of 8 and
9 and 3 and 4; at the intersection of Soldano
Avenue and Foothill Boulevard between the
hours of 8 and 9 and 2 and 3; at the inter-
section of Azusa Avenue and 10th Street
between the hours of 8 and 9 and 2 and 3.
Councilman Chester instructed the Street
Superintendent to assist the Police Depart-
ment in working out this problem.
Mr. Kressly, Consulting Engineer, addressed
the Council relative to the Pacific Electric
agreement relative to the crossing on Enid
Avenue.
No action taken.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that the Council declare a
thirty minute recess.
At the end of this period the meeting was
' resumed.

requesting the assurance that he will be
issued a City license to operate a liquor
store providing the State Board of
Equalization grants him permission to sell
liquor.'

tried to limit the number of liquor businesses in
small towns to one business for every 200 inhabitants
and Azusa had already reached this average.

be granted a thirty day leave of absence
without pay, from the Police Department.

Department of Light and Water be bonded

Councilman McIntire that the City Clerk be
instructed to request Owens-Vosburg
Insurance Company to cancel the bond on Fay
Streshly as of October 1, 1937 and to write
a bond for I. R. Calvert for 52000, and one
for S. C. Bierbower for $2000. as Collectors
of Revenue in the Light and Water Depart-
ments, effective September Bth.
