HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 82170 RESOLUTION NO. 8217 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REVISING THE CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF BUS DRIVER. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The class specifications for Bus Driver are hereby revised in its entirety in accordance with Exhibit A attached and incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. ADOPTED AND APPROVED THIS 20th day of April, 1987. ffr s i,. � � I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof on the 20th day of April, 1987, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: AVILA, COOK, CRUZ, LATTA, MOSES NONE NONE CITY OF AZUSA date approved: BUS DRIVER (Exhibit A) Under general supervision, to drive a van or fixed route bus in order to transport senior citizens, handicapped persons, and private citizens in a safe and efficient manner; perform routine maintenance on vehicles operated; and perform related duties as direct. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents assigned to positions in this classification are expected to be able to operate both vans and buses in dial -a -ride and fixed route assignments. General supervision is received from the Transportation Coordinator. Overall direction may be received from other management employees in the Community Services Department. An incumbent may be assigned to operate a van or bus to transport persons to a special event in the area. An incumbent may be assigned to function as a dispatcher from time -to -time. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: -- Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Transport senior citizens, handicapped persons and others to and from their homes, visits to medical offices, shopping, and recreation and other activities. Maintain an established time table for fixed route bus system, transporting private citizens in a safe and efficient manner at all times. Perform a daily safety check and preventive maintenance inspection of the assigned vehicle to insure it is in good working order. Assist handicapped and senior citizen riders including those in wheelchairs, to board and exit from the vehicle and to move between the vehicle and their destination, and assist passengers in carrying packages. Plan the best route to follow based on the starting points and destinations of riders and the time of their appointments when assigned to operate a dial -a -ride vehicle. Clean the inside and outside of the assigned vehicle, as needed; fill the gas tank and check and replace oil and water as necessary. Keep records of driving and maintenance activities. Page 1 of 3 0 0 Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid on an emergency basis. Assist with transportation program dispatching duties as assigned by answering telephone calls and giving needed information to drivers over the radio. Provide information to appropriate riders regarding the Seniors Nutrition Program and related activities. QUALFICATIONS Knowledge of: Applicable provisions of the California Vehicle Code. Defensive driving practices and procedures. Local geography and roadways systems. Basic first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). ABILITY TO: Safely operate a motor vehicle in all types of weather and road conditions. Maintain accurate records of activities. Follow oral and written directions. Communicate concisely and effectively over a two-way radio system. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Read and interpret street maps. Make decisions and act quickly in potentially hazardous situations. Learn the basic operating mechanics of the vehicle in order to detect mechanical problems. Physical capability sufficient to perform job tasks. Successfully complete a pre -placement medical examination which includes a drug screen test. Experience and Education: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Page 2 of 3 License or Certificate: Possession of a valid Class 2 driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles; or School Bus driver's certificate issued by the same agency; and a current medical or CHP certificate. Valid first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) cards; or the ability to obtain them within six (6) months from the date of initial employment. Page 3 of 3
