HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 82130 RESOLUTION NO. 8213 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE AZUSA CITY COUNCIL OBJECTING TO THE PROPOSED EXPANSION AND COMMERCIALIZATION OF BONELLI PARK AND URGING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO RETAIN THIS PRECIOUS ISLAND OF OPEN SPACE WHEREAS, the Bonelli Regional Park is located in the City of San Dimas, California, and has been for the past decades a refuge to residents in the Eastern San Gabriel Valley from the congestion of the City; and WHEREAS, Bonelli Park with its lake and open spaces provides active and passive recreational opportunities for hundreds of thousands of persons annually; and WHEREAS, in the recent past there has been the expansion of commercial recreational facilities in portions of Bonelli Park with a resulting negative impact on the greater San Dimas community in the form of traffic congestion, noise, and other objectionable activities; and WHEREAS, property which is developed for open space purposes is a rare and precious commodity and becoming even more rare in Southern California, especially with the anticipated increased residential development in the Eastern San Gabriel Valley; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Azusa determines and declares as follows: That this City Council does go on record as supporting the expressions of concern which have been expressed by members of this community objecting to the commercialization and expansion of the active recreational aspects of Bonelli Park as proposed. The Azusa City Council further urges the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to retain this open space. PASSED AND APPROVED this 20th day of April, 1987.
