HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 82110 RESOLUTION NO. 8211 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROCLAIMING APRIL 1987 EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS MONTH WHEREAS, scientists agree that California is likely to experience a major earthquate sometime between now and the turn of the century, and also agree that Californians are unprepared to deal with the damage that will occur in the event of such a tremor; WHEREAS, California is in an era of increasing seismic activity, with damaging earthquakes occurring, on the average, every two years; WHEREAS, along the southern San Andreas fault, 30 miles from Los Angeles, at least eight major earthquakes have occurred and scientists say that there is a 50 percent or greater chance that a catastrophic and potentially devastating earthquake measuring more than 8.0 on the Richter scale will hit this highly populated area within the next 25 years or so; and WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California has proclaimed April, 1987, as California Earthquake Preparedness Month throughout the State and the County of Los Angeles wishes to support this endeavor to assure citizen awareness and preparedness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Azusa hereby proclaims April, 1987, Earthquake Preparedness Month and urges all residents to become earthquake prepared. PASSED AND APPROVED this 20th day of April, 1987.
