The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Chester, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Arnold. The minutes of the last regular meeting of October 4, 1937 were read and approved as read. ' Councilman Arnold entered the meeting and took his seat at the Council table. Mr. F. E. Doucette, representing the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, addressed the Council relative to the 50th Anniversary edition of the paper, requesting the Council to sub- scribe for a full page add. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the City of Azusa be represented by a full page add in the 50th Anniversary edition of the local paper at a cost of eighty dollars. Carried by,the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None, Absent: None, to be read for the first time. The title of this,Ordinance was then read. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Chester that the Council waive the further reading of the -Ordinance, Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None, Absent: None. R. A. Norton, President of the Meat Cutters Association of the A. F. & L., addressed the City Council relative to Ordinance No. 330 adopted by the City Council on September 20, 1937, stating that he wanted the ' "Ordinance killed and that hedidnot want it to appear on the books at all." He stated that such an Ordinance did not exist in other cities and he did not see why the City of Azusa should adopt one. The Mayor told Mr. Norton that -the Council would be very happy to meet with the organizationts.leaders at a future date and discuss the matter at length. A notification of liquor license application was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman McIntire that Philip Marshalls Roll call. Minutes approved. Azusa Herald and Pomotropic awarded $80.00 for add. Mr. Guy Thompson addressed the Council. ORDINANCE read for the first time. R. A. Norton addressed the Council. City Liquor license granted to Philip Marshall. Mr. Guy Thompson addressed the -Council relative to the re -zoning ofBlock21. Councilman Chester offered an Ordinance entitled: ' AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA EXCLUDING LOTS TWENTY-FIVE (25) TO FORTY-TWO (42)' INCLUSIVE, BLOCK TWENTY-ONE (21) CITY OF AZUSA, FROM THE FIRE LIMITS OR FIRE DISTRICTS AND RESERVING_THE RIGHT IN COUNCIL TO AMEND, ALTER OR REPEAL. to be read for the first time. The title of this,Ordinance was then read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this motion be amended to read that the application for "On Sale Beer" license be granted Philip Marshall with the provision that he meet the requirements set forth in business license ordinance No. 326. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None. Absent: None. A request, made by the First Church of Christ Scientist, for the use of the Auditorium on February 13, 1938, was read. Moved by Councilman Chester, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that same be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. A bid on Mazda Lamps offered by Cook -Nichols Company for Mr. Peet of the Lindsay Radio and Appliance Shop, was offered as follows: Estimated Purchases - $600.00 Billing Discount - Standard package - 26,% Broken package - 21% Estimated Purchases - $250.00 Billing Discount - Standard package - 24% Broken package - 19% Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign the contract between the City of Azusa and Mr. Peet. Noes: None, Absent: None, Councilman Chester offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, ' APPOINTING CORNELIUS SMITH AS LOCAL LABOR REGISTRAR AND FIXING HIS COMPENSATION. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1541. Carried by the following vote of the -Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from Mr. Biggers on unemploy- ment and employment census, addressed to the Mayor, was read. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the Mayor be authorized to appoint committees as requested by Mr. Biggers. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strobmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Chester reported on the gutters, stating that the Street Superintendent had worked out a solution to the problem by building up the curb and placing reflectors on each side. Bid for Mazda Lamps. RESOLUTION NO. 1541 ADOPTED. Mayor authorized to appoint a committee on unemployment census. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the matter be referred to the Board of Public Works together with the Street Superintendent with power to act. It was unanimously agreed that -all the members of the City Council are in favor of the improvement of Vernon Avenue when the necessary funds are available. Councilman Chester offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY RESOLUTION NO. OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, 1542 ADOPTED. TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5000) FROM THE LIGHT FUND TO THE GENERAL FUND. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Chester that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1542. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Chester was excused and left the meeting.
