HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 8190RESOLUTION NO. 8190 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA IN OBSERVANCE OF THE CITY'S CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION WHEREAS, one hundred years ago, on the Eleventh of April, Eighteen Hundred and Eighty-seven, when Jonathan Sayre Slauson filed a Plat Map with the County of Los Angeles for the City of Azusa, a newly nascent municipality came into being after a long and often precariously turbulent period of gestation. The Santa Fe Railroad was, in a manner of speaking, both its midwife and circulatory system. Its shiny new way pointed to a new expansion and development of hitherto impossibly remote areas, and WHEREAS, after this signal event, the City, gradually pulled a verdant cover over its once open brush lands; a cover richly spotted with a new and rich, pungently perfumed auriferous -hued fruit: citrus. A great economy arose to bring to the City agricultural wealth that quickly transformed unused land to the status of a renewable resource; new bustle and hustle resounded through a municipality stirred by the spark of a fulgent treasure trove, and WHEREAS, the sound of A Z U S A was onomatopoetically transformed to a softly sibilant zephyr heavy with the heady scent of ubiquitous orange blossoms, pendant in an atmosphere made full by the endless lullaby hummed by honey bees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, recognizing that although the orange groves have vanished, and that new challenges, new realities and seemingly unsoluble frustrations confront us daily, this community stands ready to face its Second Century of existence, armed with flexible resolve, but still soothed by the languorous memory of its immortal past; a past that will forever burn brightly in the hearts of all who love A Z U S A. and Eighty-seven. ..; iii /[ /s ADOPTED AND APPROVED this Sixteenth day of March, Nineteen Hundred I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa, at a regular meeting thereof, held on the 16th day of March, 1987, by the following vote of the Council: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: AVILA, COOK, CRUZ, LATTA, MOSES NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE CITY CLERK
