The City Council of the City of Azusa met in Special Session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. The written consent of Special Meeting was read as follows: Vie, the undersigned members of the City Council of the City of Azusa will meet at the hour of 2:00 o'clock, P. M. and in recognition of the emergency created through the resignation of the Chief of Police Samuel C. Bierbower and .the proposed resignation of Councilman Harry S. Chester and to appoint successors to the respective offices, and any other business that may rightfully come before the Council. (Signed) CHAS. W. CARR Mayor HARRY S. CHESTER R. R. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Chester, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Chester's resignation as a member of the City Council, effective as of November 23, Councilman Chester's 1937, was presented. resignation accepted. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Mayor Carr that same be accepted with deep regret. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by C. H. Dickerson Councilman Arnold that C. H. Dickerson be appointed Council - appointed Councilman of the City of Azusa man, to fill the vacancy caused through the resignation of Harry S. Chester. Superintendent of Light & Water. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that this matter be referred to Jack Pierce, Superintendent of Light and Water, with power to act. NOVEMBER 23, 1937. 2:00 o'clock, P. M. A letter of appreciation, signed by Mrs. Anna M. Sharp, was read and ordered placed on file. A request to use the Auditorium every Thursday evening during the month of December, was presented by Fred Stone. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that same be granted -provided there are no conflicting dates. ' Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, APPOINTING HARRY S. CHESTER AS CHIEF OF POLICE AIM DEFINING HIS EMPLOYMENT. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Mayor Carr that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 1545. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr; Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Dickerson not voting. Communication ordered placed on file. Request to use Auditorium granted. RESOLUTION NO. 1545 ADOPTED. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY RESOLUTION NO. OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, 1546 ADOPTED. APPOINTING AND PROMOTING FRED WILLIAMS TO THE OFFICE AND STATION OF CAPTAIN OF THE AZUSA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND DEFINING HIS EMPLOYMENT. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be"adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 1546. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, ' McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire and duly carried that Adjournment the Council adjourn. City Clku J 4� erk of the C of AZusa. Mr. Chester being present took the oath of office and addressed the Council stating that he had accepted the appointment as Chief of Police with the understanding that he be given the power to run the Police Department as he ' ,saw fit and the City Council as a Whole accept his recommendation upon the employment or discharge of any member of the Police Depart- ment and recommended that Fred Williams be promoted to the office of Captain of the Police Department with a ten dollar increase in salary. Councilman McIntire offered a Resolution entitled: Communication ordered placed on file. Request to use Auditorium granted. RESOLUTION NO. 1545 ADOPTED. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY RESOLUTION NO. OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, 1546 ADOPTED. APPOINTING AND PROMOTING FRED WILLIAMS TO THE OFFICE AND STATION OF CAPTAIN OF THE AZUSA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND DEFINING HIS EMPLOYMENT. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be"adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 1546. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, ' McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None.
