The City Council of the City of Azusa met
In regular session at the above time and
place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold,
Carr, City Attorney.
Absent: City Clerk.
The minutes of the last regular meeting of
November 15th, the regular adjourned meeting
of November 17th and the special session of
November 23, 1937, were read and approved as
read.
A bid for Insurance on the City Fleet was
presented by J. C. Muehe as follows:
Fire and Theft for entire fleet 48.73
increasing fire truck to $6,000
Earthquake, etc, on fire truck 15.00

ADDITIONAL COST FOR NEW INSURANCE POLICY TO BE
DATED November 2, 1937.
Mr. Muehe addressed the Council stating that
under the new policy the Fire and Theft and
Non -ownership policies expire upon the same
date as the public Liability, Property Damage
policy, namely, November 2nd and that the
City will be held covered if the lawn mowers
or the City roller is used on the property of
private individuals, provided, however, that
these machines are under the control of the
City employees.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Arnold that Mr. Muehe be instructed
to write an Insurance policy as stated in his
letter of December 6, 1937.

McIntire, Arnold, Carr.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
A communication, signed by Thelma Wagner,
R. N. Director of the House of Neighborly
Service, asking for the use of the flood
lights on the school grounds of the Riley
School two Monday nights in the month,
was read.

Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman McIntire that this matter be Communication
referred to Jack Pierce, Superintendent of asking for use of
Light and Water, with power to act, flood lights on

A communication from the Ellis Neon Company
stating that there had been another atempt
to steal the transformers from the sign at Communication from
Azusa Avenue and Holt Avenue, was read. Ellis Neon Company
referred to Chief
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by of Police.
Councilman Arnold that same be referred to
the Chief of Police.

An invitation to attend a Los Angeles County Invitation to L. A.
League of Municipalities dinner at Torrance County League of
was read and ordered placed on file. Municipalities

A communication from the Automobile Club of
Southern California relative to left hand

of Police.
A communication from the League of California
Municipalities relative to Expenditure of
Liquor License Fees by Cities was read and
referred to the City Clerk.
' An application to the State Board of
Equalization for license for "Off Sale
Beer & Wine", "Wine Bottling" and "Off Sale Applications for
Distilled Spirits", by Mrs. Jennie Schiro, liquor licenses
was read. made by Jennie
Schiro.
It was regularly moved and seconded that the
proposed license to Mrs. Jennie Schiro for
"Off Sale Beer & Wine", "Wine Bottling" and
"Off Sale Distilled Spirits" be protested by
the City of Azusa upon the grounds that to
grant such license would be contrary to the
public welfare and morals and upon further
grounds that there are already twenty-six
liquor selling establishments operating in
the City of Azusa with a population of
approximately 5000 and that this results
in the necessity for carrying on the payroll
of more policemen than the City of Azusa has
money to pay for.

McIntire, Arnold,,Carr,
Noes: None. Absent: None.

Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that the following
business men be awarded the City business
for the month of December.

Grease Jobs - Floyd Moody
Restaurant - Wix Cafe
Lumber - Williams Lumber Yard
Tires - 0. H. Howard

Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier,
McIntire, Arnold, Carr.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
On motion duly made and seconded it was
resolved, inasmuch as Resolution No. 1545
appointing Barry S. Chester, Chief of Police,
and Resolution No. 1546 appointing Fred
Williams, Captain of Police, were passed and
adopted at a Special Meeting of the Council
held November 23, 1937, that said Resolution
No. 1545 and 1546 shall be and the same are
hereby ratified, approved, confirmed and re-
adopted the same as if fully rewritten and
set forth herein.

Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier,
McIntire, Arnold, Carr.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mayor Carr made a,preliminary report on the
matter of a culvert under the Pacific Electric
Tracks on Vernon Avenue,
Mr. J. P. Strafford appeared before the Council
requesting permission to paint the flag pole
and gold leaf the ball for the sum of $25.00.
It was unanimously agreed that the Council
check into -the matter and communicate with Mr.
Strafford at a later date.
Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by
Councilman McIntire that the following
purchase orders be allowed: 1925 -1926 -1927-
1928 -1929-1930-1931-1932-1933-1934-1935-1936-
1937-1938-1939.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier,
McIntire, Arnold, .Carr,
Noes: None. Absent: None,
Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by
Councilman McIntire that the following bills
be allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon
the Treasury for the same.
