The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of December 6, 1937 were read and approved as read. A communication signed by Leonard G. Shelton, relative to the accident that occured when the Reader child was playing in the Slauson Memorial Park, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Arnold that this matter be referred to the City Attorney, with power to act. Roll call. Minutes approved. Communication from L. Shelton referred to City Attorney with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr, Noes: None., Absent: None. A communication from A. J. Messier, Business Manager for the Los Angeles County Health Department was read and ordered placed on file. A resolution adopted by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors allocating to the City of Azusa $4,752.22, was read. Moved and carried that the City Clerk be instructed to write Road Commissioner George ' Jones requesting the payment of the money as the work of street improvement is now well under way. A communication, signed by George W. Jones, Road Commissioner, advising the Council that an additional sum of $1,365.53 will be allocated to the City of Azusa by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, was read and ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the matter of drainage for storm waters on Crescent Drive and the improvement of Crescent Drive be referred to the City Engineer and Street Superintendent to report back at the next regular meeting of the City Council. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC NECESSITY AND CONVENIENCE REQUIRE THAT CRESCENT DRIVE ' WITHIN SAID CITY BE IMPROVED FROM THE ADDITIO- NAL FUNDS ALLOCATED BY LOS ANGELES COUNTY OUT OF ITS SHARE OF MONEYS COLLECTED FROM THE LEVY OF TAXES ON MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL AND DISTRIBUTED TO SAID COUNTY BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE 1937-1938 FISCAL YEAR. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 1547. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that Walter Malone be authorized and instructed to represent the City of Azusa at the annual meeting of the Azusa Citrus Association on December 21, 1937 and that Jack Pierce, Superintendent of the Light and Water Departments be authorized and instructed to represent the City of Azusa at the annual meeting of the Azusa Agricultural Water Company on January 3, 1938. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication, signed by A. E. Williamson, City Planning and Zoning Consultant, with reference to re -vamping the City Zoning Ordinance, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Arnold that same be referred to the City Planning Commission to work out with the City Engineer and Building Inspector. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. An offer to sweep the streets, pick up cans, etc., was made by Kenneth McCardle. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Dickerson that same be accepted and placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Crook Company offered a bid on a new Allis Chalmers speed patrol. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to advertise for sealed speed patrol for use in the Street Department. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. A request, made by the Character Building Committee of the Azusa Coordinating Council to use the Auditorium on January 5, 1938, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Dickerson that written requests for use of the Auditorium be filed with the City Clerk and permission to use same ' obtained from the City Clerk and Mayor. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the City Clerk be instructed to communicate with the agents who write City of Azusa Insurance Policies and inquire as to the best method, and the expense involved, in fixing the expiration date as of November 2 on all policies and report back. BIERBOWER REVENUE COLLECTOR IN THE LIGHT AND WATER DEPARTMENT AND FIXING HIS COMPENSATION. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Mayor Carr that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1548.
