Present at roll call: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of December 20, 1937 were read and approved as read. ' The City Clerk announced that she had received One bid in answer to "Notice Calling For Sealed Bids" for furnishing the City of Azusa with a patrol grader. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Dickerson that the bid be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. CROOK COMPATIY 305; 7:30 P. hI. Roll call. Minutes approved. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. At the end of the period the meeting was resumed. Arthur Wolfe, Street Superintendent, recommended that all bids be rejected and the patrol grader purchased in open market. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Dickerson that in the opinion of the City Council, the patrol grader may be purchased at a lower price, in open market, than the prices quoted by the bidders, and for that reason all bids are rejected and the City Clerk authorized and instructed to re- turn the certified check which accompanied the Brown -Bevis Equipment Company?s bid to the bidder. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Communications presented by J: C. Muehe and Owens-Vosburg Insurance Agency relative to the expiration_ date on all City Insurance Policies, were read. Bids rejected. It was unanimously agreed that this matter be referred to the Audit and Finance Committee to make analysis of same and to report back. The City Clerk announced that she had received three sealed bids for the City's annual supply of gasoline. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Arnold that same be now opened, examined and publicly declared. A communication signed by Ada McIntire, local Postmistress, relative to the number of bicycles on side walks, was read. Moved and carried that same be referred to the Chief of Police. Communication read and ordered placed on file. m 1 309 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL FETING. JANUARY 3, 1938. 7:30 P. M. A resolution adopted by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors relative to the improvement of a portion of First Street, was read. On motion made by Councilman Arnold and seconded by Councilman McIntire, it was resolved that the City of Azusa consent to the improvement of First Street by Los Angeles County at the County's own expense at the place where said First Street inter- sects Little Dalton Wash as set forth in Resolution of the Board of Supervisors adopt- ed December 21, 1937 and that the City Clerk be instructed to notify the Board of Super- visors of said consent. Carried by the following rote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. An application, presented by the Railroad Commission, to close the crossing over the Santa Fe tracks at Orange Avenue, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Dickerson that this matter be referred to the City Attorney for the pur- pose of resisting the application. League of California Municipalities Bulletin relative to bet -taking was read and ordered ' placed on file. A communication signed by A. J. Messier, Business Manager for the Los Angeles County Health Department, was read. Noes: None. Absent: None. City Attorney I,4iller thereupon approved the foregoing authorization to the County Health Department. Councilman McIntire offered a Resolution entitled: Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors granted permission to improve First Street. Communication from Railroad Commission referred to the City Attorney. Bulletin read and ordered placed on file. Los Angeles County Health Department authorized to en- force Ordinances No. 156 and 241. to be retroactive as of July 1, 1937. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY RESOLUTION NO. Hale, Superintendent of Azusa Public authorized to Schoolq Jack Pierce, Superintendent of the install flood lights. Light and Water Departments, be instructed to install two flood lights at the Cerritos Avenue entrances to the Lee School. It was unanimously agreed that in response to City Attorney to protests on the housing of Juvenile Offenders take up matter of in Azusa, the City Attorney be instructed to Juvenile Offenders. take the matter up with the Juvenile Authorities with the view of making some change in the present set-up.
