HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 84780 RESOLUTION NO. 8478 1-1 L A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES TO CONSOLIDATE A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF SAID CITY TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 1988, WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON SAID DATE PURSUANT TO SECTION 23302 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa called a Special Municipal Election in said city to be held on November 8, 1988, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said city proposed ordinances relating to general taxes and an advisory measure relating to allowing safe and sane fireworks in the city for the Fourth of July holiday, and WHEREAS, it is desirable that said special municipal election be consolidated with the statewide general election to be held on the same date and that within said city the precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the Registrar -Recorder of the County of Los Angeles canvass the returns of the special municipal election and that said statewide general election and sepcial municipal election be held in all respects as if there were only one election; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That pursuant to the requirements of Section 23302 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles be and it hereby is requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a special municipal election with the statewide general election on Tuesdday, November 8, 1988, for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the City of Azusa propositions to appear on the ballot as follows: PROPOSITION NO. SHALL ORDINANCE NO. 2373 WHICH PROVIDES FOR ESTABLISHING A TAX: ON OFF-SITE, MULTI-USER HAZARDOUS WASTE FACILITIES IN : YES AN AMOUNT SET BY RESOLUTION OF : THE CITY COUNCIL OF UP TO TEN PERCENT (10%) OF GROSS RECEIPTS: BE APPROVED? NO 0 9 PROPOSITION NO. SHALL ORDINANCE NO. 2374 WHICH (1) INCREASES THE TAX ON SANI- TARY LAND FILLS AND DISPOSAL FACILITIES FROM TWO PERCENT (2%) TO TEN PERCENT (10%), (2) INCREASES THE MINIMUM TAX FROM $35,000 TO $100,000 PER YEAR, AND (3) PROVIDES FOR A YEARLY INCREASE OF TAX IN THE AMOUNT OF THE PERCENTAGE INCREASE IN THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX BE APPROVED? PROPOSITION NO. SHALL ORDINANCE NO. 2375 WHICH PROVIDES FOR AN INCREASE IN THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX ("HOTEL TAX") FROM SEVEN AND - ONE -HALF PERCENT (7.5$) TO TEN PERCENT (10%), BE APPROVED? YES NO YES NO PROPOSITION NO. SHALL ORDINANCE NO. 2376, WHICH PROVIDES (1) AN ADDITION-: AL FLAT FEE FOR CERTAIN BUSINESS LICENSES, (2) A YEARLY: INCREASE IN BUSINESS LICENSES YES AND CERTAIN TAXES BASED UPON THE PERCENTAGE INCREASE OF THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX AND BUSINESS GROWTH, AND (3) NO PROVIDES FOR THE DEPOSIT OF TAXES IN THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND, BE APPROVED? PROPOSITION NO. SHALL ORDINANCE NO. 2377 WHICH ESTABLISHES AN ADMISSIONS TAX ON CERTAIN EVENTS AND PARKING IN THE SUM OF TEN PERCENT (10%) OF THE ADMISSION PRICE, BE APPROVED? - 2 - YES NO 0 0 PROPOSITION NO. : SHALL ORDINANCE NO. 2378 : WHICH PROVIDES FOR A YEARLY : INCREASE IN TAXES FOR MINING, : EXCAVATION, AND WOOD : PROCESSING, IN THE PERCENTAGE : INCREASE OF THE CONSUMER PRICE : INDEX, BE APPROVED? PROPOSITION NO. ADVISORY VOTE ONLY: SHALL SAFE AND SANE FIREWORKS BE PERMITTED WITHIN THE CITY OF AZUSA FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY? YES NO YES NO SECTION 2. Said Registrar -Recorder is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said special municipal election which it is hereby requested to consolidate with said special state election and said election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election; and only one form of ballot shall be used. SECTION 3. The Board of supervisors is hereby requested to issue instructions to the Registrar -Recorder to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of said consolidated election. SECTION 4. The City of Azusa recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any such costs. SECTION 5. That the City Clerk of the City of Azusa is hereby directed to file certified copies of this Resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the Registrar -Recorder of the County of Los Angeles. SECTION 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution, shall enter the same in the book of original Resolutions of said City and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records in the proceedings of the City Council of said City in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted.
