M. 95 The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Roll call. Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of,the last regular meeting of January 3, 1939 were written and mailed to each member of the City Council and the City Attorney. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- Minutes approved. ' man Malone that the minutes of January 3, 1939 be approved as written. Follows re- Protest on zoning lative to the zoning of property on Azusa Avenue referred to Plan - north of Ninth Street, was read. ning Commission. The Clerk announced that she had received two sealed bids on the City's annual supply of gasoline. City Clerk in- structed to return checks. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Strohmeier that the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Miss Strohmeier appeared before the Council and requested the Council place an add in the Citrus Annual. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Owens that the City place a full page ad4 similar to the one used last year, in the Citrus Annual, at a cost of eighteen dollars. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. A proposal for supplying fire hose, by the American Rubber Manufacturing Company, was read ' and ordered placed on file., Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, TRANS- FERRING THE SUM OF THIRTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS (3500) FROM THE LIGHT FUND TO THE PARKIMPROVE- MENT FUND. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper that this'Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1601. Chief of Police Williams reported to Council that the 20-30 Club had purchased Sally Safety Signs to be used in the City for the protection of school children at the Boulevard crossings. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Mayor Arnold that the City Clerk be instructed to write the 20-30 Club expressing the Councils apprecia- tion of this splendid gesture on the part of the 20-30 Club. License Collector Paul Smith appeared before the Council during the discussion of the dog license problem. It was agreed that Officer Smith was to devote one half of each day to the collection of dog tags until the work is completed. Mayor Arnold appointed Leo Ebersold to fill vacancy on the Planning Commission caused by the resignation of Earl Philleo. 101' 7:30 P. M. 20-30 Club present ed Sally Safety Signs. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Malone that the Superintendent of and Water be instructed to sign an agreement ' between the City of Azusa and the Burroughs Adding Machine Company for one years service the Billing Machine. Councilman Jumper reported on a Special Meeting held by the Directors of the Los Angeles County League, where the matter of County allocation of the Gas Tax Fund was discussed, stating that the League hope to enact legislation whereby the County will be required to apportion 70% to the Cities and retain 30% of the Gas Tax Allocation. Purchase of hose referred to Pur- chasing Committee. Applications granted. Report made by Councilman Jumper. 102 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL. .JANUARY 16, 1939. Councilman Malone brought to the attention of the Council the Charter and Articles of Incorpor- ation of the Azusa Electric Light and Power Company, requesting that same be framed and hung in the Light and Water Department. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Owens that the matter be referred to the Chairman of the Purchasing Committee, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens.. Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. City Attorney Miller,reported on the Reader case. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper WHEREAS the Firm of Tscharner and Miller have been appointed by Resolution to represent the City in the case brought by Mrs. Lena Reader against the City for injury to Donald R. Reader and they have presented to Council an itemized account of all claims, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and instructed to sign demands made on the General Fund in full settlement of all claims, and of the matters set forth in the suit of D. R. Reader, by Lena Reader his guardian ad litem, and Lena Reader against the City of Azusa and others being cause No. 427709 Los Angeles County Superior Court, said Claims and Demands so compromised and settled being as follows: Lena Reader individually and as guardian ad litem, two hundred dollars. ' S. S. Hahn, V1. 0. Graf and Phi 0. Clough, 150 Dollars. Covina Hospital, an amount not to exceed 30 dollars. Dr. J. W. Hankins, an amount not to exceed 165 dollars. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and instructed to sign an agreement between the City of Azusa and the Santa Fe Rail- road Company for the maintenance of Sodium Vapor Lamps on eight Santa Fe crossings within the City of Azusa. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, ' Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: Mone. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper and duly carried that the Mayor appoint a Committee of 5 to select a name for the Park known as the "Civic Center Park".
