FEBRUARY 6, 1939. 7:30 P. M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
A request to use the Auditorium on February 14,
1939, made by Mr. Cokely, was'read.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Owens and duly carried that same be
granted providing there are no conflicting dates.
Mrs. Riffel_requested that palm trees be plant-
ed, by the City, in the parkway in front of her
property on Eleventh Street.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Jumper that this matter be referred
to the Planning Commission to ascertain whether
or not the palm is the type of tree designated
' for Eleventh Street.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens,
Strohmeier, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
A communication, signed by Geo. N. Hale, Super-
intendent of Azusa City Schools relative to the
Safety Signs presented to the City by the
20-30 Club, was read.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Jumper and duly carried that this
communication be placed on file and the Chief
of Police notified of Mr. Halets action.'

and City Clerk.
The minutes of the last regular meeting of
January 16, 1939 were written and mailed to
each member of the City Council and the City
Attorney.

Board of Supervisors, requesting all department
heads and Communities throughout the County
anticipating County Aid to be considerate in
their demands, was read.

Moved and carried that same be placed on file.
Donald Graffam, Chairman of Committee appointed
to select a name for the Park submitted, for the
Council's consideration, the name "Azusa Civic
Center Park".
Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council-
man Strohmeier that the Council accept the report
of Mr. Graffam's Committee and officially declare
the name of the Park to be "Azusa Civic Center
Park", the City Clerk to be instructed to express
to Mr. Graffam and his Committee the Council's
appreciation.

to construct the proposed road, westerly from
the southwest corner of the Wilsford property
as per sketch submitted to City Engineer,
between the dates March 1st to April 302 1939.

Mayor Arnold addressed those present as follows:
Ladies and gentlemen we have a report rendered
to us by the City Planning Commission on the
matter of zoning, with the assistance of Mr.
Williamson whom we employed to go into this
matter. The Planning Commission has made cer-
tain recommendations that we feel are for the
best interest of all citizens in the City of
Azusa. As you already know, the Oity has had a
form of zoning for a good many years. However,
we felt that this zoning was far from satisfact-
ory, particularly with reference to the text of
the existing ordinance.
The City Planning Commission has had two public
hearings on the proposed plan, as is required by
law; the City Council will hold two public hear-
ings, to -night being the first.
If there is anyone in the audience who wishes to
be heard on this matter, you will be given the
opportunity on the conclusion of the reading of
the Ordinance.
Councilman Jumper offered an Ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINA14CE TO REGULATE AND RESTRICT THE LOCATION
OF TRADES AND INDUSTRIES AND THE LOCATION OF
BUILDINGS DESIGNED FOR SPECIFIED USES, TO REGULATE
AND LIMIT THE HEIGHT AND BULK OF BUILDINGS THERE-
AFTER ERECTED OR ALTERED, TO REGULATE AND DETER-
MINE THE AREA OF YARDS, AND OTHER OPEN SPACES,
AND FOR SAID PURPOSE TO DIVIDE THE CITY INTO
DISTRICTS AND PRESCRIBE PENALTIES FOR THE VIO-
LATION OF ITS MVISIONS, TO PROVIDE FOR ITS EN-
FORCEMENT AND TO REPEAL PRESENT ORDINANCE,NO.
294 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINAN-
CES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.

be referred to the City Attorneys for checking
and to report back at the next regular meeting
of the Council.

Council and recommended a Dodge Sedan be pur-
chased for use in the Police Department as he
felt this particular car would meet all the
requirements of this Department.
