The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of February 21, 1938 were read and approved as read. ' A communication from Andrew J. Copp, Jr., Chairman of Reserve Officers Association of The United States, relative to "Absence of Public Officers on Military or Naval Duty" was read and ordered placed on file. A report by the Azusa City Planning Commission on zoning and planting was read. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the City Attorney meet with the Planning Commission to determine what they have in mind and report back to the Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, I+4cIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman McIntire, seconded by Councilman Arnold that the City Attorney be directed to meet with the Planning Commission for the purpose of ascertaining the Committee's recommendations as to contemplated planting by the City and to work out a plan whereby the property owner benefited would sign a contract to water and cultivate the plantings adjoin- ing his property and to report back to Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman McIntire offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA FRANSFERRING FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00) FROM THE LIGHT FUND TO THE SPECIAL PARK IMPROVEMENT FUND. Moved by Councilman Dickerson, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1554. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Dickerson that the following business men be awarded the City business for the month of March: Doctor - Dr. Cook First Aid, Etc. - Foothill Drug Store Garage - C. M. Singleton Garage Grease Jobs - Standard Oil Station Restaurant - Bennie's Lunch Hardware - morgan Hardware Lumber - Williams Lumber Yard Tires - C. H. Howard. ' Superintendent of Light and Water, Jack Pierce, reported on vapor lamps, stating that he was unable to secure a reply from the Santa Fe Railroad Company since the flood. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the Chairman of Public Works and Chairman of the Purchasing Committee be instructed to check prices on pre -mix and report back at the next regular meeting of the Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. On motion of Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier it was resolved that all police and fire uniforms and police and fire equipment bought or purchased by the city or out of city funds, shall r emain the property of the city, and shall be returned to the City by any persons in possession of the same, in all instances where, due to a change of employ- ment, such policeman or fireman is not required to use such uniforms or equipment in the per- formance of official city duties as such policeman or fireman. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None. Absent: None. Upon motion made by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman McIntire it is resolved that the Flood Control Officials in charge of Dams No. 1 and No. 2 and the Pasadena City Officials in charge of Morris Dam be congratulated by the City Council of the City of Azusa for the judicious way in which their dams were handled during the unprecOdented flood on Aiarch 2, 1938, in a manner that protected the City of Azusa and the entire San Gabriel Valley; that the City Clerk be directed to notify Chief Engineer Howell of the Los Angeles County Flood Control, the Chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Board of Directors of the City of Pasadena, Morris S. Jones, Chief Engineer of the Water Department of the City ' of Pasadena, Mr. Fred Chapman, Resident Engineer for Iviorris Dam, Mr. Tom Mulhearn, Resident Engineer for Dam #2, and Mr. E. R. Steuver, Resident Engineer of Dam #1 of the passage of this resolution. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Dickerson, Strohmeier, McIntire, Arnold, Carr. Noes: None, Absent: None. Street Superintendent Wolfe was summoned before the Council. Superintendent of Light & Water reported on vapor lamps. Chairman of Purchasing Comm- ittee and Public Works to check prices on pre- mix. All police and fire uniforms and equipment belonging to City to remain in Cityl: possession. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman McIntire that the following bills be allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon the Treasury for the same.
