JUNE 7, 1938. 8:00 o'clock, P. M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular adjourned session at the above time
and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens,,
Dickerson, Strohmeier, Arnold, City Attorney
Tscharner and City Clerk.
Absent: Councilman Carr.
Mr. John H. Colton, Engineer for the Board of
' Fire Underwriters of the Pacific addressed
the Council relative to adequate fire pro-
tection for the City of Azusa.
His suggestions covered seven important
points as follows:
Roll call.
Mr. Colton
addressed the
Board.
1. A fire department ordinance to describe and offer stability
for a definite fire department organization, its maintenance and
operation. Such ordinance should generally describe the basic
organization, the authority and duties of members, and prescribe
rules governing the qualifications and appointments of officers
and members.
2. A set of fire department rules and regulations to govern the
general and detailed operation, maintenance and training of the
Department.
3. The purchase of a second piece of equipment to act as the
basis for a second company; such piece should preferably be a
standard approved triple combination pumper not smaller than
500 g.p.m., preferably 750 g.p.m., with standard hose body and
water tank not larger than 300 gals.

6. Definite organization of the department into two companies
with company officers for each. Drills should be such that
either or both companies can operate independently under the

7. Improved dormitory facilities with definite assignment of
several drilled members to occupy quarters at the fire station
at night.
The Council discussed the purchase of a fire
truck, the appointment of a Fire Commission
and the employment of a Fire Chief to instruct
the department.
The members of the Fire Department were
present and expressed their willingness to
cooperate with the Council in making their
Department as efficient as possible.
' Councilman Owens reported to the Council that
he interviewed all the property owners on
Sunset Avenue relative to the improvement of
Sunset Avenue by cutting same through to
Twelfth Street. All those interviewed were
in favor of the improvement with the except-
ion of Mr. Pryor.
Mayor Arnold reported that he stopped work on
Sunset Avenue pending Mr. Pryor's appearance
before the Council to protest this improvement.
PIIr. Pryor failed to appear.
No further action taken.

Mr. Pryor failed
to enter verbal
or written protest.

Moved by Councilman Dickerson, seconded by
Councilman Ovens that Requisition No. 70 be Requisition.
allowed.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Oviens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: Councilman Carr.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
' Councilman Dickerson and duly carried that the Adjournment.
Council adjourn.
