The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens,
Dickerson, Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold, City
Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk.
The minutes of the last regular meeting of
June 20, 1938 were read and approved as
read.
' Charles B. Forbes offered his resignation as
Life Guard at the Swimming Pool.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Owens that this resignation be
accepted.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Applications offered by Eugene Blakemore and
Carl 0. Hill were read and ordered placed
on file.
Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution
entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TRE CITY
OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,
EMPLOYING A LIFE GUARD FOR THE SLAUSON
MEMORIAL PLUNGE, DEFINING HIS EMPLOYMENT
AND FIXING BIS SALARY.

Councilman Carr that this Resolution be
adopted as read and numbered Resolution
No. 1578.

A conmiunication signed by J.. C. Muehe,
requesting permission to renew the Public
Liability Policy written on the swimming
Pool, was read.
moved by Councilman Dickerson, seconded by
Councilman OwensthatJ. C. Muehe be
authorized to write the renewal on this
policy.

A communication from A. J. Messier, business
manager for J. L. Pomeroy, M. D., relative to
' the Azusa Clinic was presented and ordered
placed on file.
Price quotations on 3 inch rock from Fish
Canyon, offered by the Pacific Rock and
Gravel Company, was read.
Moved by Councilman StroYnneier, seconded by
Councilman Owens that same be filed for
further consideration.

Purchasing Committee to report back.

Mr. Grayson, with the State Relief Administra-
tion, addressed the Council relative to a
garden project.

'A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA , LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,
GRANTING TO TIE CALIFORNIA STATE RELIEF
ADMINISTRATION THE USE OF CERTAIN LANDS FOR
COMMUNITY GARDENS AND AGREEING TO FURNISH
IRRIGATION THEREFOR.
Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by
Councilman Dickerson that this Resolution be
adopted as read and numbered Resolution No.
1579.

Mayor Arnold appointed Lydia Jester and C. H.
Putnam to serve as members of the Library
Board until June 30, 1941.

Councilman Dickerson that the Council
' approvethe action of the Mayor.

Councilman Strohmeier that the matter of
purchasing caps for crossing guards be
referred to the Purchasing Committee, with
power to act.

A request, made by Mrs. Russell, for the
privilege of bidding on the Cityts garbage
Collection, was read.
It was agreed that this matter be brought
up and discussed at the next regular meet-
ing of the Council.
The City Clerk announced that she had
received 5 bids in answer to "Notice
' Calling for Bids on Fire Apparatus."
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Dickerson that the bids be now
opened, examined and publicly declared.

chase a truck and make the selection at this
time.

Council accept the bid of The Seagrave Cor-
poration upon recommendation of the Fire Chief.

Mayor Arnold offered a Resolution entitled:

OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,
DIRECTING THE PURCHASE OF A FIRE TRUCK AND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO SIGN
CONTRACT THEREFOR.

Chief of Police Williams introduced the
subject of first aid in case of accidents.
City Attorney Tseharner ruled that if the
Injured person is unable to pay for first
aid, the City should.assume'that.obligation.
Moved by Councilman Carr, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that the City Clerk
be authorized and instructed to notify all
doctors in Azusa that the City will not be
responsible for patients given first aid
unless the poliee:offieer on the case signs
the demand.
