A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA OPPOSING STATE SENATE BILL 959 --
WATER SUPPLIES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, SB 959 would impose a surcharge upon urban
retail water suppliers to pay for safe drinking water, and fire
and wildlife projects; and
WHEREAS, SB 959 unfairly taxes the urban water
consumers. Rural water users have even greater impact upon water
quality and fish and wildlife resources, yet they escape this
tax; and
WHEREAS, It is not appropriate to levy taxes and then
find programs to spend the revenue. Besides, there is no nexus
between the tax and many of the programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE that the City of Azusa opposes SB 959 in its
present form and urges the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife
Committee not to adopt it until further hearings are conducted
and all inequities of this Bill have been addressed.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of
July r 1991.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa, at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 15th day of July , 1991.
