A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA SUPPORTING THE LIGHT RAIL PROJECT
AND COMMITTING THE CITY TO FINANCIALLY
PARTICIPATE IN THE PREPARATION OF AN EIR FOR
THE CORRIDOR
WHEREAS, the cities of Arcadia, Azusa, Claremont, Duarte,
Glendora, Irwindale, La Verne, Monrovia, Pasadena, Pomona
and San Dimas have joined with the Los Angeles County
Transportation Commission and the San Bernardino County
Association of Governments to Commission a Preliminary
Planning study along the Northern San Gabriel/San
Bernardino Valley Transportation Corridor, and
WHEREAS, the study was conducted by Korve Engineering, Inc. and
completed in August, 1992, and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission will
soon choose the candidate rail project to be funded and
built before the end of the century, and
WHEREAS, the eleven cities of the Northern San Gabriel Valley
desire their corridor to be the first candidate project
selected and built before the end of this century, and
WHEREAS, the Preliminary Planning Study demonstrates that the
Northern San Gabriel Valley Corridor is a worthy project
for consideration because of the availability and good
condition of the Santa Fe right-of-way, the severe
congestion of the 1-210 freeway, the high potential
ridership and patronage generators, and the connectivity
with commuter rail from San Bernardino County, and
WHEREAS, the eleven cities of the Northern San Gabriel Valley
Corridor have demonstrated their support for this project
by helping to finance the preliminary study and seeking
means of providing a local match for the final project,
and
WHEREAS, the business community in the Corridor is also committed
to the success of the project, and
WHEREAS, to be competitive with other candidate corridors it is
imperative that the environmental clearance process for
the Northern San Gabriel Valley Corridor be started as
soon as possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Azusa supports the
Northern San Gabriel Valley Corridor Project and will participate
financially in the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report
for the Corridor with a first phase to include some combination of
light rail and commuter rail shuttle and a late phase to replace
the commuter rail shuttle with light rail.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 21st day of September, 1992.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution No. 92-C129 was duly
adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular
meeting thereof, held on the 21st day of September 1992, by the
following vote of the Council:
