The, City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and. place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Roll call
Dickerson, Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold, City
Attorneys and City Clerk. Minutes of the last regular Minutes
meeting of Sept. 6 were read and approved as read, approved.
A Notification of Liquor License Application
to the State Board of Equalization made by Application for
Leroy Clark and Fred C. Crow, was read. liquor license
protested.
' Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by
Councilman Carr that this application for
On Sale Beer be protested for the following
reasons:
The proposed location is in close proximity
to two churches and is on the main thorough-
fare where children must pass to and from
school; is within a few doors of the only
Motion Picture Theatre in town and would be
against the welfare and public interest of the
City as well as increasing the already burden-
some police problem as there have been com-
plaints of gambling and a game room at said
place.
Carred by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
A card of appreciation from Mrs. Roy Arnold
and her family was read and ordered placed
on file.
The Union Oil Company submitted prices on
gasoline.

A communication from the State Compensation
Insurance Fund relative to a refund was read
and ordered placed on file.
A request, presented by the Department of
Public Works, for a detailed report of work
done on certain streets, was read.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Carr that City Engineer Sressly be
instructed to prepare the required report.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None, Absent: None.
A communication signed by F. M. Robinson
relative to tax delinquent property was read
and ordered placed on file.
' A brief summary of the Budget prepared for the
year 1938-39, submitted by F. M. Robinson,
was read.
It was unanimously agreed that the report be
published in the Azusa Herald.
Councilman Strohmeier offered an Ordinance
entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES
COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 1 OF
ORDINANCE N0, 255 OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA,
RELATING TO WATER RATES AND WATER CONNECTIONS.
to be placed upon its first reading.
This Ordinance was then read for the first time.

Virgil Smith appeared before the Council relative
to the erection of a hose rack at the Fire Hall.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeler, seconded by
Councilman Owens that the City Clerk be instructed
to write Captain Dunlap explaining to him that
it is the wish of the City Council that he con-
tinue to drill the Azusa Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment without expense to the City of Azusa and
the Hirsch Company will not be held responsible
in case of accidents arising out of the afore-
said drills.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council-
man Dickerson that the City of Azusa Fire
Department respond to all calls for fire pro-
tection for Citrus Union High School.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved and carried that the City Clerk be
instructed to return to Gus Meier his gavel
together with a note of appreciation for the
use of same.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Owens that the City Clerk be
instructed to write Mr. Barber requesting a
Crossing Guard at the corner of Azusa Avenue
and 10th Street, as there is no provision for
a guard at this crossing in the Police Budget
and the City feels at this time that they are
not financially able to employ a guard.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Carr that it be Resolved that
permission be granted to the Azusa Foothill
Citrus Company, or other interested parties,
to connect a 12 inch drain with the City's
drain at or near the intersection of Cerritos
Avenue and Foothill Boulevard upon condition
that the City be saved harmless from any
expense or liability in connection with the
construction, installation or maintenance of
said 12 inch drain.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strob Bier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by
' Councilman Dickerson that the City Council
direct the Chief of Police to revoke all out-
standing permits to carry concealed weapons
and that any person or persons desiring a
permit to carry concealed weapons appear
before the Council and show cause why such
permit shall be granted by the Chief of Police.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Dickerson,
Strohmeier, Carr, Arnold.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Dickerson, seconded by
Councilman Strohmeier that the following
