HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 93-C0330 RESOLUTION NO. 93—C33 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TAE CITY OF AZUSA APPROVING THE CONTINUANCE OF THE HALF -CENT SALES TAX BIPLEMENTED ON JULY 19 1991 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA does resolve as follows: WHEREAS, in 1991 the Governor and the State Legislature implemented a half -cent sales tax in order to resolve the 1991 budget deficit; and WHEREAS, the half -cent sales tax is scheduled to expire in June of 1993 and without the continuance of the half -cent sales tax, it will necessitate additional cuts to cities, counties and educational programs; and WHJEREAS, most Chambers of Commerce, business and educational communities are supporting the half -cent sales tax due to the foreseeable cuts in local goverment spending and a rise in local taxes; and WHEREAS, allowing the half -cent sales tax to expire would be fiscally irresponsible and detrimental to California's business climate, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby urge the Governor and the Legislature of the State of California to support the authorization of the half -cent sales tax for the welfare and benefit of the entire State and all of its businesses and communities. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 19th day of April 1993. I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on the 19th day of April 1993 by the following vote of the Council: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: DANGLEIS, MADRID, NARANJO, MOSES NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: ALEXANDER ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
