AZUSA APPROVING THE CONTINUANCE OF THE HALF -CENT
SALES TAX BIPLEMENTED ON JULY 19 1991
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, in 1991 the Governor and the State Legislature implemented a half -cent
sales tax in order to resolve the 1991 budget deficit; and
WHEREAS, the half -cent sales tax is scheduled to expire in June of 1993 and without
the continuance of the half -cent sales tax, it will necessitate additional cuts to cities, counties and
educational programs; and
WHJEREAS, most Chambers of Commerce, business and educational communities are
supporting the half -cent sales tax due to the foreseeable cuts in local goverment spending and
a rise in local taxes; and
WHEREAS, allowing the half -cent sales tax to expire would be fiscally irresponsible and
detrimental to California's business climate,
