HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 94-C840 RESOLUTION NO. 94-C84 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA URGING SUPPORT OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES WHEREAS, mental illness is an insidious evil that strikes us where we are most vulnerable and defenseless; an apparently healthy person bears the stigma of often misunderstood erratic behavior and acute emotional distress, and WHEREAS, historically, sadly, manifestation of these symptoms brought to the afflicted, brutal punishment, incarceration and even death for what was considered to be a shameful exhibition of divine retribution, or satanic reward, for some hidden sin, and WHEREAS, with the discovery of what causes mental illness, a new awareness has brought the possibility of adequate and appropriate treatment to those in the throes of any of a myriad array of mental maladies; this in itself, however, requires of us all, a watchful supportive stance to insure that the financial pipeline, which delivers this care and treatment to those in need is not disrupted. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Azusa, ever mindful of the need to provide vigilant support for all of our society's agencies which treat this catastrophic and endemic illness, does hereby proclaim its support of mental health services and urges the State Legislature not to curtail much needed economic support to mental health service agencies, and to be ever ready to assist in order to ease the way for all who provide the afflicted with care.
