HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 19, 1939 - CC (2)CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. JUNE 19, 1939. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold and City Attorney. Absent: City Clerk. The Mayor announced that the minutes of the last regular meeting of June 5th and the Special Session of June 14, 1939 were written and mailed to each member of the City Council and City ' Attorney. It was unanimously agreed there being no corrections or omissions the minutes be approved as read. A request to use the Auditorium on Friday, June 30, 1939, was made by the Daily Vacation Bible School. Moved and carried that this request be granted providing there are no conflicting dates. A communication signed by Mrs. L. L. Russell stating that she is willing to continue to collect Oity garbage from July 1, 1939 to June 309 1940 at a price of $25.00 per month, and will furnish the required bond, was read and ordered placed on file. It was unanimously agreed that Mrs. Russell continue the collection of garbage as soon as satisfactory Bond is filed. A communication from the Automobile Club of Southern California relative to a Stop bign ' on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Angeleno avenue, was read. It was unanimously agreed that an Order be signed for the purchase of this Stop Sign, and the communication placed on file. A communication from the San Gabriel Valley Protective Association acknowledging receipt of $50. in payment of current Assessment and cancelling past Assessments in the amount of $350., was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Malone that same be placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from J. C. Muehe regarding Insurance rates was read. Moved by Oouncilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper that this report be attached to the rates on blanket Insurance, submitted by ' Mr. Muehe, for future consideration. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier,-Arnold. Noes: None. absent: None. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Malone that requests for electric range service be granted to Mrs. A. R. Greninger, Charles Mace and V. B. Whi4 upon receipt of letters guaranteeing the demand charge for a period of one year. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. M 209 Councilman Strohmeier reported the City Engineer had talked with Mr. Graham of the Pacific Rock and Gravel Company regarding pre -mix required to surface the alleys. Mr. Graham stated he could no longer furnish pre -mix at the price,of $1.42, plus tax, as per his quotation of May 18, 1939. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Pre -mix to be pur- Councilman Strohmeier that the City purchase chased from Asphalt pre -mix from the Asphalt Paving Materials Paving Materials Co. ' `'ompany at a price of $1.41, the same price as that quoted by the Los Angeles County Pur- chasing Agent. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Greever Estate water Councilman Malone that the matter of collect- bills referred to ion of Water bills for the Greever Estate be Attorney and Water referred to the City Attorney and Superintendent Superintendent. of Water Department, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Charles Mace granted Councilman Owens upon recommendation of the Building permit. Building Inspector and after talking with mem- bers of the Planning Commission, the appli- cation for a building permit, made by Charles Mace, be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. Miss Nims appeared before the Council relative to the building of a garage near her house. Building of garage referred to Building Moved and carried that this matter be referred Inspector. to the Building Inspector. Mr. T. M. Moore appeared before the Council requesting a permit to build a garage. Councilman Jumper reported that at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Coun- ty League of Municipalities the motion was made, seconded and duly carried the recommendation of the League to the Board of Supervisors relative to the distribution of gas tax money ' be on the same basis as that used last year, namely 85% on population and 15% on mileage. City Attorney Tscharner reported he had examined a report made to the Los Angeles County board of Supervisors relative to relief on Street Assessment Bonds and found that only 1903 and 1911 Bonds were eligible for relief. Irwindale Avenue from 1st Street to Broadway Avenue would be eligible in the amount of $10,000., however the Board of i>upervisors had not acted upon the report. Mr. Tscharner also reported that upon investi- gation he found the City could carrytheir own Compensation Insurance. A copy of the Citrus High School La Palma was presented to the City of Azusa by the Editor and Staff. Moved by Mayor Arnold, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the 1939 edition of La Palma be presented to the Azusa Public Library, with the understanding that it remain in the building, and the City Clerk be instructed to write the ' Editor expressing the Council's appreciation. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, 4rnold. Noes: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Owens that the following requisitions be allowed: 475 to 496. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Owens that the following bills be allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon the Treasury for the same.
