HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - July 17, 1939 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. JULY 17, 1939. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold, City Attorney and City Clerk. The Mayor announced the minutes of the last regular meeting of July 5, 1939 were written and mailed to each member of the City Council and to the City Attorney. ' There being no errors or omissions the minutes stand approved as read. A request, offered by the Life Payment Organi- zation, to use the Auditorium, was read. Moved and carried that same be granted. A communication from the Secretary of the Azusa Planning Commission relative to the Harland Building Permit, was read and ordered placed on file. A communication from Mr. E. S. Gripper of the State Highway Department, relative to the trimming of pepper trees on Azusa Avenue, was read and ordered placed on file. An application for work in the Police Depart- ment was presented by H. L. Hardee. '+loved and carried that same be placed on file for future reference. A letter prepared by Mr. Tscharner, notify- ing all taxpayers of the present laws govern- ing delinquent taxes, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper the City Clerk be authorized to have same printed and mailed to all tax delinquent property owners. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayest Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes:. None. Absent: None. Councilman Owens offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ADOPTING BUDGET SET FORTH IN PROJECT STATEMENT TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE EXPENDITURE OF 1/4 CENT GAS TAX ON STREETS OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR END- ING JUNE 30, 1940 WITHIN THE CITY OF AZUSA. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Malone that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1616. Singleton Garage Grease Jobs - Associated Service Station Hardware - Spriggs Brothers Hardware Lumber - Williams Lumber Yard ' Paint - Morgan Hardware Restaurant - Malt Shop Tires - C. H. Howard The Azusa Public Library Board notified the Mr. Hinds, Mrs. City Council they had declared vacant the Owens and Mrs. office of George N. Hale. Chester appointed Mayor Arnold appointed E. F. Hinds to serve members of Library as a member of the,Library Board until June Board. 30, 1940 to complete Mr. Hale's unexpired term. Mayor Arnold also appointed Mrs. Mattie Owens and Mrs. Dorothy Chester to serve on the Azusa Public Library Board until June 30, 1941. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the Council ratify and approve the Mayor's action. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Crossing Guard Councilman Owens the matter of employment of employment referred Crossing Guards be referred to the Police to Police Committee and City Attorney withpower to act. Committee, with Carried by the following vote of the Council: power to act. Ayes: Uouncilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. Iv1r. C. E. Cook addressed the Council relative Swimming classes to the organization of swimming classes at the at pool referred local pool, under a Red Cross Life Saving to Councilman Instructor. Owens.
