HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - August 21, 1939 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. AUGUST 21, 1939. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session,at the above time and place. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Owens that one hundred dollars be allowed each of the following to cover expenses while attending the League of California Municipalities Convention to be held in Oakland, California on September 18th to 21st. Mayor P-rnold, "ex Strohmeier, Victor A. Owens, Walter Malone, Harry D. Jumper, Attorney Tscharner. Carried by the following vote of the'Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. A request to use the Auditorium on September 22 1939 was read. ' moved and carried that same be granted provid- ing there are no conflicting dates. A communication signed by Cornelius Smith, approving the application of Mr. Windel to ' establish a machine shop on West Foothill Boulevard, was read. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Malone that same be accepted and ordered placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from Cornelius Smith relative to applications for Building Permits of John D. Lund, W. A. Safely and T. M. Moore, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by - Councilman Jumper and duly carried'that same be accepted and placed on file. An application signed by Mabelle Scott of the mabelle Scott Rancho School for Girls, for fire protection for the School, was read. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper that same be referred to the ' Police and Fire Committee, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication signed by Rodolfo Salazar, Counsul of Mexico, was presented and referred to the City Attorney, Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING EASEMENT FROM THE SANTA FE LAND 241 7:30 P. M. Roll call. Minutes approved. City officials expenses to be paid while attend- ing League Con- vention. Use of Auditorium granted. Mr. Windel granted permission to operate machine shop. Report on Building Permit application accepted. Request of Mabelle Scott referred to Police and Fire Committee. Communication ordered placed on file. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold, City Attorney and City Clerk. The minutes of the last regular meeting of August 7, 1939 were written and mailed to each member of the City Council and to the City Attorney. ' The Mayor stated there being no errors or omissions the minutes would stand approved as written. SANTA FE RAILWAY COMPANY, DATED JUNE 7, 19399 1623 adopted. EXECUTED ON THE 3rd DAY OF JULY, 1939, AND AUTHORIZING SAME TO BE RECORDED. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Owens that the Purchasing Committee be authorized to purchase uniforms and cloth- ing for r'olice and Fire Departments to meet their requirements, at the lowest price quoted for regulation garments. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Strohmeier that the following Resolution be adopted: ' WHEREAS the Police Department under Chief Fred E. Williams has for a long period of time been operating in an exceedingly efficient and harmonious manner, the good results from said efficient and harmonious work by all of the _ men in this department has resulted in improved law enforecement and better conditions prevail within the City of Azusa, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Azusa that we commend Chief Williams and the members of the Police Department for the efficient manner in which they have performed the duties of their respective offices. Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA REIA TIVE TO COLLECTION OF PENALTIES AND COSTS OF DELINQUENT 1938-1939 TAXES. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Owens that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 1624. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens, Strohmeier, Arnold. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by Councilman Jumper and duly carried the matter of adoption of an Ordinance governing food handlers be referred to the City Council as a Committee of the Whole. Moved by Councilman Strobmeier, seconded by Councilman Owens that the following requisi- tions be allowed: 553 to 564.
