A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, COMMENDING AND
THANKING THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION
AND ITS RESOURCE TEAM FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS,
KEEN INSIGHTS, AND INVALUABLE TIME
DEVOTED TO THE AZUSA RESOURCE TEAM PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Local Government Commission has been established to assist local
governments in seeking solutions to urban problems, and
WHEREAS, the Local Government Commission, with the concurrence and support from the
Azusa City Council, conducted its Resource Team Project in the City of Azusa on May 17 and 18,
1996, focusing on the Monrovia Nursery development proposal, and
WHEREAS, the City Council appointed a City Planning Team to work with the Local
Government Commission, and
WHEREAS, the Local Government Commission was instrumental in designing and
conducting a highly successful workshop that brought together a diverse group of participants,
including Council members, Planning Commission members, a panel of volunteer Resource Team
members, Local Government Commission staff, a Citizen Focus Group, citizens -at -large, the
Monrovia Nursery developer team, and City staff, and
WHEREAS, the Resource Team, representing various professionals in the design and
development field, came from different parts of the country to volunteer their time, and provided a
wealth of experience and advice to the City regarding development issues pertaining to the Monrovia
Nursery project.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve as follows:
SECTION 1:
Mr. Rick Cole and Ms. Kristen Paulsen of the Local Government Commission are hereby
commended for conducting an outstanding process by which the Monrovia Nursery development
project was discussed, and alternative planning and design principles were presented for future
consideration.
SECTION 2:
The City Council hereby extends a warm thanks to the Resource Team members, who have
devoted their valuable time to provide insight and advice to the City regarding the incorporation of
alternative planning principles in the proposed Monrovia Nursery development. The City Council
wishes to thank and commend each of the participating Resource Team members:
Mr. Frank Hotchkiss, Architect and former Director of Strategic Planning at SCAG.
Ms. Kathryn Clarke Albright, Professor of Urban Design, Virginia Polytechnic Institute
Mr. Mark Kehke, President of Siena Pacific Enterprises
Mr. Peter Katz, Executive Director, Congress for the New Urbanism.
SECTION 3:
The City Council hereby recognizes and thanks Ms. Darlyne Garofalo for contributing her
valuable time to the effective planning of the Resource Team Project, as Chair of the City's Planning
Team.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 1st day of July, 1996.
