CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. JANUARY 2, 1940. 7:30 P. M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Roll call.
Malone, Owens, Arnold, City Attorney and City
Clerk.
Absent: Councilman Strohmeier.
The Clerk announced she had received four bids Four bids on

City Attorney Miller announced the date and
place of a public meeting which is being held
for the purpose of discussing the advisability
' of Cities of the Sixth Class installing their
own electric distributing system.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier, seconded by
Councilman Malone and duly carried the Mayor
appoint a committee consisting of Virgil Smith,
Superintendent of Light Department and as many
members of the Council as can do so to attend
the meeting in Arcadia January 4, 1940.
The Clerk announced that she had received two
bids in answer to Notice calling for bids on
pre -mix.
Moved by Councilman Strohmeier seconded by
Councilman Owens and duly carried that the bids
be noNopened, examined and publicly declared:

VERNON PAVING COMPANY
As per your notice to Contracters herewith attached, we are pleased
to submit the following quotation for furnishing of Premix Rock &
Oil to the City of Azusa, as per City of Azusa specifications:
5,000 Tons (more or less) asphaltic concrete (premix
rock & oil) delivered,to City Streets as designated by
the Street Supt. of the City of Azusa, and truck spread,
.......$1.25 per ton. $69250.00
' Sales tax is included in the above quotation.
PACIFIC ROCK AND GRAVEL COMPANY
In accordance with your notice to contractors inviting sealed bids
or proposals for furnishing 5000 tons more or less of Asphalt
Concrete (premix).
We wish to quote you for Oil Premix delivered and truck spread on
the City of Azusa streets; all for the -sum of $1.35 per ton.
A cash discount of 10� per ton will be allowed if the account is
paid in full by the tenth of the month for all deliveries made
the preceding month.
Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council=
man Strohmeier the Council award the bid to the
lowest responsible bidder, Vernon Paving Company, Bid awarded to

to return the check to the unsuccessful bidder.

Samuel Lopez of #238 Dalton Avenue appeared Samuel Lopez
before the Council and requested permission to granted per -
open a pool hall at #301 Dalton Avenue, stating mission to open
that if permission be granted he would not make pool hall,
application for,nor serve beer and intoxicating
liquors.
It was unanimously agreed this request be granted
provided Mr. Lopez furnish the required bond and
pay the necessary business license.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Owens,
Strohmeier, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Councilman Strohmeier offered a Resolution
