HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 97-C0320 - 0 F ` RESOLUTION NO. 97-C32 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, URGING CITIES TO FLY THE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED POW/MIA FLAG AT ALL CITY FACILITIES WHEREAS, Postal Regulation 47 of the Administrative Support Manual provides that the only flags authorized to be flown at post offices are the United States flag at the Postal Service flag, and WHEREAS, there are still over ten thousand veterans listed as prisoners of war and/or missing in action, and WHEREAS, the City of Azusa is committed to showing our respect and gratitude to those Americans who are prisoners of war or who are classified as missing in action, and WHEREAS, in keeping faith with these Americans and their families, we continue to remember and commemorate their sacrifices, and WHEREAS, the POW/MIA flag has been nationally recognized, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa is preparing for introduction an Ordinance recognizing the POW/MIA flag as an official flag to be flown at City Hall and city owned facilities. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That all cities are urged to follow the example of the City of Azusa and fly the nationally recognized POW/MIA flag at all facilities owned by the City, and SECTION 2. That the City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to other cities and to other concerned organizations, officials and individuals. PASSED, APPROVED AND this 17th day of March, 1997.
