RESOLUTION NO. 97—C110
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
SUPPORTING THE THREE VALLEYS MUNICIPAL WATER
DISTRICT SPONSORED BICYCLE RIDE
"BIKE FOR THE BAY -DELTA"
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the State Water Project is an important source of imported water to supplement existing local
supplies and replenish the groundwater level in the Main San Gabriel Basin; and
WHEREAS, the State Water Project cannot fulfill its full, intended potential as a water supply due to
serious decline of the environment, water quality and system integrity within the Sacramento -San Joaquin Delta;
and
WHEREAS, federal and state agencies are currently engaged with numerous stakeholders in a major
cooperative effort known as CALFED, to solve the inter -related problems and improve the multiple beneficial uses
of the Bay -Delta region and its precious water; and
WHEREAS, the CALFED process and any solutions derived through that process would be furthered by
greater public awareness and support in Southern California and throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, a recreational bicycle ride is planned a major event to generate very positive media coverage,
and thereby increase public attention and support for the Bay -Delta and the CALFED process; and
WHEREAS, the "Bike for the Bay -Delta" is planned for up to 10,000 bicycle riders on October 12, 1997,
utilizing surface streets beginning at west -bound lanes of the 210/Route 30 Freeway between its eastern terminus
and Azusa Avenue; and
WHEREAS, city costs in logistical support for the Bike for the Bay -Delta event will be reimbursed from
revenue produced by the event; and
WHEREAS, as a condition of its approval, the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) has
requested resolutions of support from the cities through which the bicycle ride will pass;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that:
Section 1. The City of Azusa supports the "Bike for the Bay -Delta" bicycle ride, to be held on
October 12, 1997; and
Section 2. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to CalTrans in
partial completion of the conditions of approval for the bicycle ride to utilize the freeway.
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of August, 1997.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of
Azusa at a regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day of August, 1997.
