HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 98-C060RESOLUTION NO. 98—C60 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA TO DETERMINE SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE CITY OF AZUSA BY THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION. WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has a Human Relations Commission which was established to promote improved human relations, civic peace, intergroup understanding, and the full acceptance of all persons in all aspects of community life; to actively promote a just and equitable intercultural society that fosters positive human relations; and to reduce and eventually eliminate intergroup violence, conflict, and tension, as well as discrimination, prejudice, and stereotyping based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other arbitrary factor; and WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles is one of the most diverse communities in the world, presenting a unique blend of cultural experiences and numerous challenges; and WHEREAS, the challenges can be addressed by building a human relations infrastructure responsible for mediating the natural stresses that result from having such a diverse population; and WHEREAS, the City of Azusa recognizes the importance of collaborating in resolving human relations issues; and WHEREAS, this agreement is designed to specifically address critical and emergent human relations issues which occur within the City; and WHEREAS, the County's Human Relations Commission has agreed to provide local jurisdiction support and assistance in managing and resolving situations and conditions which are manifested in tensions and conflicts between groups with opposing interests pursuant to a Human Relations Mutual Assistance Agreement, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit A (the Agreement); and WHEREAS, the City of Azusa desires sufficient resources and expertise to be able to effectively handle its human relations and intergroup conflict issues; and WHEREAS, the City of Azusa understands that the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission desires to help the City of Azusa increase its capacity in identifying and resolving human relations issues and subsequently the City would be able to assist the County and Other local jurisdictions in times of crisis; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES RESOLYF AS FOLLOWS: THE CITY COUNCIL HEREBY APPROVES THE AGREEMENT AND AUTHORIZES THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT. AND ADOPTED this 6th MAYOR day of April 1998. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution No. 98-C6 0 was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa, at a regular meeting thereof, held on the 6th day of April 1998, by the following vote of the Council.
