WHEREAS, the City of Azusa has been fortunate to benefit from the long-term employment

WHEREAS, upon retirement from public service, such individuals deserve formal
recognition and thanks from the City for a job well done over a significant and long period of time;

year; and
WHEREAS, the City has commitments to pay the costs of providing essential community
services such as fire protection, animal control and refuse collection, as well as the costs for City
needs such as legal representation and insurance protection, and
WHEREAS, increases in these "non -discretionary" costs, coupled with the Cost -of -Living

Department to predict a revenue shortfall in the 1998-99 Fiscal Year, and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Finance Director did meet with all employees to explain
the situation and did ask that those employees in the midst of planning their respective retirements
from the field of public service to consider assisting the City financially by accelerating their plans
and retiring early, and
WHEREAS, in recognition of these facts, the employees listed below have offered to leave
the employ of the City of Azusa, and in doing so, to assist the City in mitigating the revenue
shortfall in its General Fund; and
