The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular
session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone,
Bradshaw, Owens, Arnold and City Attorney.
Absent: City Clerk.
Each member present having acknowledged receipt of
a written copy of the minutes of the regular meet-
ing of March 18th and the regular adjourned meeting
' of March 25, 1940, the Mayor asked if there were
any objections or corrections to said minutes.
There being none, the minutes of the regular meet-
ing of March 18th and the regular adjourned meeting
of March 25, 1940 were unanimously approved as
written.
A written request to use the Auditorium on May 3rd,
1940 for a Boy Scout benefit show, was offered by
H. S. Jackson, Scoutmaster of Troop ##1.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman
Owens that this request be granted.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Mr. Al Robertson of Alhambra presented an appli-
cation to operate a Duck Pin Bowling Academy at
133 West Foothill boulevard.
Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman
Bradshaw such permission be granted, providing Mr.
' Robertson complies with all City Ordinances.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
The Nigg Engineering Corporation presented a
request to widen the East side of the approach to
the Associated Service Station, located on the
Southwest corner of Foothill Boulevard and San
Gabriel Avenue.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Bradshaw this matter be referred to the
Board of Public Works, with power to act.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
A Notice of the Annual Meeting of the San Gabriel
Valley Protective Association was read and
ordered placed on file.
Councilman Jumper reported on the League meeting
held in Fresno, stating that the following matters
were discussed: City supplying water service
for outside consumers; State Highway appropria-
tions; Licensing outside merchants; Finger
printing peddlers; Survey made by the State
Retirement Board; Cleaning and i^proving lots in
the business district for parking.
Miss Catherirg Carr appeared before the Council
requesting that an Ad be placed in the 1940
Citrus High School La Palma.

Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council-
man Uwens the'City place a full page Ad, at a
cost of eighteen dollars, in the 1940 La Palma.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
The following Resolution was duly passed and
adopted.
RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE

Ad placed in
1940 La Palma.
WHEREAS, Thomas A. Smith, our fellow townsman and friend
has passed from our midst into that realm from which no traveler
returns; and
WHEREAS the deceased was at one time a member of the City
Council of this City where he labored faithfully for the public good
and gave much of his time and energy toward solving the Cityts pro-
blems and making our community a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS in the passing of Thomas A. Smith the community
has lost a real friend, worker and neighbor.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the City Coun-
cil of the City of Azusa, California, at a regular meeting held
this 1st day of April, 1940, that we hereby express our personal
loss and sympathy as well as the heartfelt sympathy of this commun-
ity to the members of the bereaved family in the loss of a faith-
ful husband, a good father, staunch friend and useful citizen.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread
upon the Minutes and a copy thereof be sent to the family of the
deceased.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly adopted by the City Council of the City of Azusa at
a regular meeting of said City Council thereof held on the 1st day
of April, 1940 in the regular Council Chambers of said City Council,

cilman Owens that the matter of the purchase of Purchase of
a new Lawn Mower be referred to the Purchasing Lawn Mower

Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council-
man Jumper the City Clerk be authorized to notify
the Autoinobile Club of.Southern California to
replace all necessary Stop Signs on Foothill
Boulevard with the reflectorized type, and to
bill the City for four signs per month until all
have been paid for.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Virgil Smith,-Superintendent,of Light and Water,
reported that the Water and Electric lines to
the Sewage Plant had been completed.
It was duly moved and duly carried that the matter
of securing easements for the purpose of continu-
ing First Street westerly to the Sewage Treatment
Plant be referred to the City Engineer to make
recommendation at the next regular meeting.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Malone the following requisitions be allowed:
741 to 750, 775 to 782, 8010 802.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Malone the following bills be allowed and
warrants ordered drawn upon the Treasury for
the same.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Owens, Arnold.
