Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Roll call. Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens,City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Each member present having acknowledged receipt Minutes approved. of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting of April 15, 1940, the mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to ' said minutes. There being none, the minutes of the regular meeting of April 15, 1940 were unanimously approved as written. A communication from the Division Head of the Matter of Sponsor's WPA Projects, relative to Sponsor's Identifi- Identification cation cards, was read. cards referred to City Engineer. It was unanimously agreed that Mr. Kressly make a list of names of those who should have cards. A -request offered by Milton Prleeder, for use of Request to use the Tennis Courts on May 25th, was read, tennis courts referred to Coun- Moved and carried that same be referred to cilman Bradshaw. Councilman Bradshaw. Mr. Clark requested the use of the Auditorium Use of Auditorium on May 9th. granted. It was unanimously agreed that same be granted provided there are no conflicting dates. Mrs. Beatrice Kinne requested a part of the Mrs. Kinne granted City business, part of City business. Collection of precious stones Mr. Putnam, President of the Library Board, to be placed in granted permission to place Mr. Smith's Public Library collection of precious stones in the Library. Mayor Owens announced his resignation as a member of the City Planning Commission and appointed Councilman Bradshaw to fill the vacancy. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone the appointment of Council- man Bradshaw as a member of the Planning Commission be approved. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. ' Noes: None. Absent: None. It was moved and carried the Mayor sign and publish a Proclamation relative to "THIS WORK PAYS YOUR COMMUNITY" 'Week. A communication signed by Thomas H. Holmes, Director, Division of Employment of the Works Projects Administration_, relative to the employment of local labor, was read and ordered placed on file. Councilman Arnold offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTIONS 14, 16 AND 19 OF ORDINANCE NO. 154 OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROVIDING A SYSTEM FOR THE ASSESS- MENT, LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES PASSED THE 24th DAY OF FEBRUARY, 19140" AND ALSO AMENDING SECTION 15 OF SAID ORDINANCE #154 AS AMENDED BY SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE #159 OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ' OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING SECTIONS 15, 28, 29, 30, 33 and 46 OF ORDINANCE #154 OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROVIDING A SYSTEM FOR THE ASSESSETENT, LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES PASSED THE 24th DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1914. to be placed upon its first reading. The title of this Ordinance was then read. Councilman Bradshaw offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE SALARY OF TIiOMAS L. MUNSON TAX COLLECTOR, MAKING PROVISION FOR RELATIVE TO HIS BOND AS SUCH, AND DEFINING HIS DUTIES. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1662. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Uwens. Noes: None. Absent; None. cl 7:"0 P. M. ' Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, COMITY OF LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY TREASURER TO ISSUE CHECK IN FAVOR OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, IN PAYMENT OF LOTS DESCRIBED IN CONTRACT BETWEEN SAID CITY AND THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, DATED MARCIi 12, 1940. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1662. Superintendent of Light and Water -Departments Virgil Smith addressed the Council recommending that Mr. Bell be made truck foreman with a ten dollar increase in salary. No action taken. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RESOLUTION NO. AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING 1663 adopted. RESOLUTION #1584 BY STRIKING THEREFROM THE NAME OF PAUL E. SMITH AS LICENSE COLLECTOR IN SAID ' RESOLUTION PROVIDED. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Malone that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1663. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RESOLUTION NO. AZUSA, LOS ANGEL'S COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, TRANS- 1664 adopted. FERRING THE DUTIES OF LICENSE COLLECTOR TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF SAID CITY AND APPOINTING PAUL E. SMITH AS PATROLMAN ON THE POLICE DEPART- MENT AND FIXING HIS SALARY. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Coun- cilman Malone that this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1664. It was unanimously agreed that the City pay City to pay for $1.00 for single lectures for those who wish single lectures to attend the Annual School of Government. during School of Government 'Meek.
