CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. JUNE 39 1940. 7:30 P. M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the. --above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Roll call.
Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens, City
Attorney and City Clerk.
The meeting was opened with the flag salute.
Each member present having acknowledged receipt Minutes approved.
of a written copy of the minutes of the regular
' meeting of May 20, 1940s the Mayor asked if
there were any objections or corrections to
said minutes. There being none, the minutes
of the regular meeting of May 6, 1940 were
unanimously approved as written.
A communication from N. W. Reese, District Communicationsread.
Traffic Engineer, relative to the painting of
pedestrian lanes on Azusa Avenue was read and
no action taken.
A communication from the Alhambra Division of
the Office of Supervisor of Census gave the
population of Azusa, May 29, 1940 as 5,193 .
A request to be placed on the City list of
restaurants was offered by Ezra Johnson of
the Tip Top Hotel. Mr. Johnson placed
on City list of

the swimming pool were offered by Jack Musser
and Charles Wilson.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Applications referred
Councilman Jumper the Slauson Memorial Pool to Mayor Owens.

to Mayor Owens, with power to act.

Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by
Councilman Bradshaw and duly carried the

The matter of the proposed pin ball game

Mr. Tscharner opposed the passage of this

Mr. R. J. Vale and Mr. Ray Adams spoke in
favor of the passage of such an Ordinance.
The Mayor then asked the members of the
Council to express their opinion.
Councilman Malone -said he was of the same
opinion as Mr. Tscharner.

Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Coun-
cilman Arnold the second reading of this
Ordinance be held over until the next regular
meeting of the Council.
Carried by the following vote of the Councilt
Ayes: Councilmen. Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Arnold, Owens.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Mr. Sims, representing the Workers Alliances,
' addressed the Council stating that he -had the
names of 70 people living in Azusa who are at
the present time. -Out of employment and their
names appear on the Los Angeles County Relief
rolls.
It was' agreed that the City Attorney and
Councilman Jumper together with Mr. Sims form
a committee to wait upon Mr. Legg, Administrator
of the -Works Progress Administration.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Coun-
cilman Bradshaw the matter of purchasing a new
motorcycle be referred to the Purchasing and
Police Committees, to repor_t.back at the next
regular meeting.

Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Arnold, Owens,
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by
Councilman Arnold the following requisitions
be allowed: 829-838, 864-872.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw,
Arnold, Owens.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by
Councilman Arnold the following bills be
allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon the
Treasury for the same.
Carried by the'following vote of the Council:

Arnold, Owens.
