Others, just as loudly, proclaim that firearms must be prohibited for all, with the exception of police and military forces. Another, would permit licensed firearms for hunting, target shooting and for home protection. Finally, another group, while close to the preceding one, would additionally severely limit, and monitor closely, the manufacture, and sale, of firearms, and WHEREAS, No matter what position, vis-a-vis firearms, we take, we are certain to bring upon our heads the animosity, if not the hatred, of those in opposition; we are truly on the horns of a dilemma; however, a positive step to resolve our problem has appeared. A nationwide group of concerned mothers who are sickened by escalating gun violence, have organized a march in Washington on Mother's Day, May 14, 2000, to demand strong gun safety legislation; they have issued a call to all to join with them in order to make their presence felt, and show our government that we have had enough of this blight on our nation: that UNITED WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. NOW THEREFORE, The City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby resolve as follows: To support the MILLION MOM MARCH 2. To urge all of our government representatives, both State and Federal, to join with us in supporting this critically needed effort. Furthermore, to urge these legislators to speak for us by disseminating our message and demand to those who can provide the formulation, and enaction, of legislation to accomplish the desired end.
