A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF PROPOSITION 12,
THE "SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS, CLEAN WATER,
CLEAN AIR AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND"
INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa has placed a high priority on improving the
quality of life for the residents of Azusa; and
WHEREAS, trees are part of a natural system whereby rainfall is caught and released slowly into
the ground, initiating a cycle that produces nutrients, fresh water and clean air, thus balancing the
ecosystem and enabling it to provide everything that people, plants and animals need for a
sustainable and prosperous life; and
WHEREAS, the City of Azusa has an investment in over 15,000 trees and is seeking to establish
more trees and a greater ability to nurture and maintain them, and
WHEREAS, Proposition 12, the "Safe Neighborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean Air and Costal
Protection Bond", includes $10 million for the planting and care of trees in urban areas and
additional provisions that will provide cities, counties and local park districts funding for urban
forestry projects, and
WHEREAS, Proposition 12 requires that at least ten percent (10%) of the per capita funding
provided to local agencies in Los Angeles County be used for "urban reforestation projects", and
WHEREAS, the City of Azusa is a potential recipient of grant funds under this new statewide
program,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Azusa supports
the passage of the "Safe Neighborhood parks, Clean Water, Clean Air and Coastal Protection
Bo Im ' tive on the March, 2000 state-wide ballot.
