The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens, City Attorney and City Clerk. Each member present having acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the.regular meeting of August 19,.1940, the Mayor asked if there were any objections or correctiona. to ' said minutes. There -being none, the minutes of the regular meeting.of_August 19, 1940 were unanimously approved as written. A request to sell beer on September 15th and 16th was presented by the Secretary of the Partido Liberal Lodge. Moved by Couneilman,Arnold, seconded by.,Council- man Bradshaw the .matter. ,be. referred ,to "the Chief of Police for investigation and with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council; Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper. -Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from J. C. Muehe relative to a refund on the Public Liability Policy, was read and ordered placed on file. A communication from Mr..Muehe relative to fire Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Councilman Jumper this.Resolutioa be.adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 1680. ' Moved by Councilman Malone., seconded by Coun- cilman Jumper that the letter of Crook Company, dated August 20, 1940, in connection with the purchase of a.Model 10-B Bucyrus Erie,trench hoe, be made a part of the original contract or lease; that same be accepted and -the Mayor authorized to sign such acceptance. Carried by the following vote of the Counoil: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens, Noes: None. Absent: None. A request, offered by John R. Sitton, that his name be placed on file as driver and operator of the Fire Equipment, was offered. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Malone that same be placed on file for future reference. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Arnold offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF TRE.CITY COUNCIL.OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,.LEVYING TAXES AND FIXING THE TAX RATE OF ALL PROPERTY IN SAID CITY FOR ALL MUNICIPAL PURPOSES AND TO PAY THE BONDED INDEBTEDNESS AND INTEREST ON THE SAME FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1940-1941. Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFONIA TRANSFERRING FROM THE WATER RESERVE FUND TO THE 1906 WATER BOND FUND THE SUM OF THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-TWO ' DULLARS AND TWENTY.FIVE.CENTS ($382.25), AND TO THE 1914 WATER BOND FUND THE SUM -OF ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND SIIVENTY DOLLARS ($1,570.00); ALSO TRANSFERRING FROM THE LIGHT RESERVE FUND TO THE LIGHT BOND FUND 1914.THE.SUM OF NINE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS -($935.00). TOPEKA & SANTA FE RAILWAY COMPANY AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN THE SAMB. Councilman Arnold -offered an.Urdinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF.THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, CREATING AND ESTABLISHING FIRE'ZONES IN THE CITY_OF AZUSA AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, to be placed upon its -first reading. This Ordinance was then read for the first time. A representative of the Mexican colony, appeared before Council and -requested the -use of 'the City owned public address system. Moved by Co'uncilman_Arnold, seoonded by.Coun- cilman Malone this matter be referred to Councilman Bradshaw, with power to act. RESOLUTION NO. 1681 adopted. RESOLUTION NO. 1682 adopted. ORDINANCE read for first tiTMe. Councilman qnd Tscharner & Miller authorized to attend Conference at San Diego. Matter of loaning public address system referred to Councilman Bradshaw. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by.Coun- oilman Bradshaw that.the City Clerk be.instructed to draw demands on the General Fund In the amount of one hundred dollars each, -to defray expenses while attending the League.of`California Municipalities Conference, at_San Diego on September 16th to lath inclusive, made payable ' to the following: .Councilman: Owena, Bradshaw, Arnold, Malone, Jumper and the firm of Tacherner and Miller. Carried by the following vote of -the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens, Noes: None. Absent: None.
