HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 02-C093 RESOLUTION NO. 02-C93 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF THE CONTINUED PRESENCE OF AZUSA HEALTH CENTER AS A FULL SERVICE FOR HEALTH CARE IN THE CITY OF AZUSA WHEREAS, the Azusa Health Center, having served the residents of Azusa, and it's surrounding neighbors since 1931 ,under the original name of the Kate Vosburg Memorial Clinic, when the site was donated to the City of Azusa to serve the needs of the people, is now scheduled to be closed on October 1 , 2002, due to County budgetary cuts, and WHEREAS, the location now houses a large facility, built to serve a greater populous to meet the needs and improve the general health and well being of the residents of Azusa and others living in the eastern portion of the Los Angeles County, and WHEREAS, the Azusa Health Center administer over 21 ,000 clinic visits annually; serves the area that has the eighth highest rate of uninsured in California, including nearly one third of children, among 80 Assembly districts; and meets the needs of family planning, pre-natal care and family medicine, and WHEREAS, the Azusa Health Center serves to assess the health care of the local community and regularly collaborates with other community groups to improve services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Azusa City Council hereby urges the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors not to act on this issue until they have worked with the State and Federal entities for possible solutions, or alternatives to closing the Azusa facility in order to resolve budgetary matters, so as not to compromise the health and well being of the thousands of patients who use the facility annually for their health care needs.
