HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 06-C010E RESOLUTION NO. 06-C 10 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA SUPPORTING THE ADOPTION OF ASSEMBLY BILL 1844 (CHAVEZ) WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1844 (Chavez) would raise the minimum wage from $6.75 to $7.25 per hour on July 1, 2007; and then to $7.75 per hour on July 1, 2008; and WHEREAS, The minimum wage in California was last increased January 1, 2002; and WHEREAS, California's minimum wage is significantly low considering the cost of living in our great State; and WHEREAS, AB 1844 (Chavez) is intended to assist our hard working-class residents with the inclusion of a modest inflation adjustment increase estimated at 1.97% annually over the seven and one-half year period outlined in the legislation; and WHEREAS, Assemblyman Chavez's Bill is needed by Azusa's working-class, and all throughout the State for an improved livable wage. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby support and recommends the passage of Assembly Bill 1844 (Chavez) and commends Assemblyman Chavez for his efforts in addressing the need for a higher minimum wage in California. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 21 st day of February, 2006.
