Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Roll call. Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Each member present having acknowledged receipt Minutes approved. of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting of June 16, 19419 the Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said ' minutes. There being none, the minutes of the regular meeting of June 163, 1941 were unanimously approved as written. Mr. Moore presented a petition signed by Thomas Petition referred M. Moore, Thomas A. Oki, J. P. O'Neal and to Planning Donnell M. Spencer requesting Council to_exoept Commission. lots 33 to 50 both inclusive in Block 36 from the fire zone. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Council- man Jumper this matter be -referred to the Board of Public Works and Planning Commission, with power to act. Miller, Secretary, Street Naming Committee for Planning Congress, relative to the re -naming of Sunset and 7th Streets to Irwindale.Avenue, was read. Moved and carried that same be referred to the City Bngineer. A request to operate an outdoor motion picture show by Maurice Hodge, was read. Moved aid oarried that Mr. Hodge be denied a license to operate in Azusa. A request to purchase Lot 8, Block 23, City of Azusa, was offered by Mr. Quintana. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Malone this matter be referred to Council- man Arnold to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the action taken -In -the matter of protesting the issuance of a license of Matilde and J. Guadalupe Mendoza for a Retail Package off Sale Beer & wine at 833 Azusa Avenue, be hereby ratified and approved. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Counoilmens Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Dr. Cook addressed Coun- cil. City Clerk Instructed to write Paul Masen. City Engineer instructed to reply to request of Street Naming Planning Congress Request denied. Request to pur- chase Lot 8, Block 23, re- ferred to City Attorney. Protest to issu- ance of license to J. Guadalupe Mendoza. Dr. Cook appeared before Council stating that he felt the Business License of $12.00 was unfair to professional people. Mayor Owens assured him that the Council would ' take this matter under advisement. Rev. Leroy G. Ogan of 1010 Dalton Avenue pre- sented a written request for the job of crossing guard. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Arnold this matter be referred to the Chief of Police to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter written by Mrs. 0, L. Roberts commend- ing Mr. Pratt on the manner in which he conducts examinations for the motor vehicle drivers licenses, was read. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the City Clerk be instructed to write raul Masen, Division of Drivers Licenses and add the City of Azusa!s dommendation to that of Mrs. Roberts. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, ' Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication signed by J. A.
