A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA,
OFFERING A SPECIAL REWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000)
LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE PERSON WHOSE WILLFUL
MISCONDUCT RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF PAULINE SQUIRES AND SERIOUS INJURY
TO MICHAEL BRAIER

WHEREAS, California Government Code section 53069.5 authorizes local
agencies to offer and pay rewards for information leading to the identification and
apprehension of any; person whose willful misconduct results in injury or death to any
person, or who willfully damages or destroys any property; and

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa has adopted a procedure to
offer special rewards ,pursuant to Section 53069.5; and
WHEREAS, on :March 27, 2004, 23 -year old Pauline Squires was killed and 19 -year-
old Michael Braier was seriously injured in a pedestrian -vehicle collision at Azusa Avenue
and Fourth Street, which was caused by an unidentified person who drove the vehicle and
willfully fled the scene 'of the accident; and
WHEREAS, the; identity of the driver of the vehicle remains unknown; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the City's adopted procedure and the provisions of Section
53069.5, the City Council now desires to offer a special reward for information leading to
the arrest and conviction of the person whose willful misconduct resulted in the death of
Pauline Squires and serious injury to Michael Braier.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Special Reward. The City Council hereby offers a reward of ten
thousand dollars ($10,000) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the
person whose willful Imisconduct resulted in the death of Pauline Squires and serious
injury to Michael Braier. In the event that there are multiple contributors of information
which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the fatal collision,
the reward shall bei divided by the City Council in such a manner as deemed
appropriate by the Coluncil.

Information must be submitted in writing in the form of a letter

in whole or in part for the fatal collision.
The City Council shall resolve all claims for the offered reward in
such a manner as deemed appropriate by the Council. The City Council shall follow all
procedures regarding payment of special rewards as provided in Chapter 46 of the
Azusa Municipal Code.
SECTION 4. Upon the City Council's approval of this Resolution, the City Clerk,
shall cause notices and/or advertisements to be posted on the City's Internet website
and duly published in at least one newspaper of general circulation in the City, setting
forth the City's reward offer in a manner designed to provide immediate City-wide notice
of the offer. All notices and advertisements of a reward shall set forth the conditions
and limitations of the offer.
