HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 2, 1942 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MARCH 2, 1942. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens, City Attorney Miller and City Clerk. Each member present having acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting of February 16, 1942, the Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of the regular meeting of February 16, 1942 were unanimously approved as written. 257 7:30 P. M. Mr. Anthony Ortuno addressed the Council relative to the repair of his building located at 232 Azusa Avenue. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Council- man Jumper that the petition of Anthony Ortuno be granted by Council in the event the City Planning Commission approve. Carried by the following vote of the Councils Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Memmesheimer addressed the Council relative to a $300. donation to the annual baseball tournament. No action. Tausto C. Perez requested permission to purchase junk in this City. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Council- man Jumper this matter be referred to the Chief of Police, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the Clerk be instructed to write the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors relative to the construction of a sewer line along the northerly line of Foothill Boulevard to connect with the service station of Standard Stations, Inc. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Bradshaw offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, CALLING A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON THE 14th DAY OF APRIL, 19420 AND GIVING A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE VOTING PRECINCTS AND LOCATION OF THE POLLING PLACES; FIXING THE TIME THE POLLS SHALL BE OPEN; APPOINTING THE ELECTION OFFICERS THEREFOR AND DIRECTING NOTICE TO BE GIVEN OF SUCH ELECTION AS REQUIRED BY LAW. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Arnold this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1752. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Roll call. Minutes approved. Mr. Ortunoâ–ºs request granted. Request for donation made by Civitan Club. Mr. Perez, reques to purchasefunk referred to Chief of Police. City Clerk instructed to write Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. RESOLUTION NO. 1752 adopted. 7MA1V 00 UZ cq MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL MEETING. -MARCH 2, 1942. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the Chairman of the Fire Committee be authorized to purchase: 1 - combination Fog Nozzle - 1z" 1 - combination Fog Nozzle - 1" 1 - 12 foot length of soft suction hose. 2 - canisters for Gas Masks. Carried by the following vote of the Council:, Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes; None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Arnold, seconded by Council- man Jumper the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for Bids for furnishing one Bull -dozer complete. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Malone the City Engineer be authorized and instructed to sign an agreement between the City of Azusa and the County Surveyor of Los Angeles County relative to Section 13 of the Subdivision Map Act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. 7:30 P. M. Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING P. J. TSCHARNER AND ALBERT H. MILLER OF TSCHARNER & MILLER TO CONDUCT DEFENSE OF SUPERIOR COURT CASE OF SINGH VS. WALTER E. MEYER, CARL C. KIMBRELL, ET AL. Moved by Mayor Owens, seconded by Councilman Arnold this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1753. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Malone that the Superintendent of Light be authorized and instructed to purchase six phones and necessary wire for emergency installation. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilment Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. The matter of signing and "E" form contract to discontinue the old "CE" form contract between City of Azusa and Cook Nichols Company, was discussed, also the matter of purchase of incandescent lamps. Councilman Malone reported the cost of repair to the monument would be x$85. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the following requisitions be allowed: 1382-1388, 1410-1412. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Malone, Bradshaw, Arnold, Owens. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the following bills be allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon the Treasury for same. 259 Chairman of Police & Fire szthorized to purchase material. City Clerk authori zed to advertise for Bids on Bull- dozer. City Engineer authorized to sign agreement. RESOLUTION NO. 1753 adopted. Contract with Cook Nichols discussed.
