The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper. City Attorney, ROLL CALL Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None Each member present acknowledged receipt of a ' written copy of the minutes of the regular meet- ing of May 4th, the adjourned meetings of May 6, MINUTES 8 and 11, 1942. The Mayor asked if there were APPROVED any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of the regular meeting and the adjourned meetings were unanimously approved as written. A communication from Harold J. Ryan, Agricultural Commissioner, relative to the control of puncture vine, was read. PUNCTURE VINE CONTROL REFERRED Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- TO BOARD OF man Morden, this matter be referred to the Chairman PUBLIC WORKS of the Board of Public Works, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Owens, Bradshaw, Morden Jumper Noes: None Absent: None A communication addressed to Cornelius Smith, signed by Lynn D. Mowat, General Manager, Los Angeles Community Welfare Federation of 1151 South Broadway, COMMUNICATION Los Angeles, California, requesting Mr. Smith to ON STATE WIDE represent the City of Azusa at a meeting in Los RELIEF ' Angeles for the purpose of determining a fair quota for this City to assume, in support of approved nation-wide fund appeals for war relief and other such causes, was read. No action taken. An application for work in either the Police or APPLICATION Fire Departments, offered by Vernon L. Howard, was ORDERED PLACED read and ordered placed on file. ON FILE The firm of Diehl and Edwards, Certified Public Accountants, presented an audit of the accounts and records of the City Judge to April 30, 1942. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Morden, Council accept Mr. McGeehan's resignation as of May 1, 1942, and the Auditor's report to be accepted and placed on file. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Owens, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None Mr. McIntosh of the Associated Telephone Company, ' requested permission to make a change in the instal- lation of the City telephone at the Disposal Plant from a straight line to a two party line. It was unanimously agreed Mr. McIntosh's request be granted. The Pacific Electric Railway Company presented a Lease on pole contact. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Owens this matter be referred to the City Attorney to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Owens, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None REPORT ON JUDGE'S RECORDS ORDERED PLACED ON FILE TELEPHONE COMPANY GRANTED PERMISSION TO CHANGE PHONE INSTALLATION PACIFIC ELECTRIC CO. LEASE REFERRED TO CITY ATTORNEY 313 MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL MEETING. MONDAY, MAY 18, 1942. 7:30 P.M. Councilman Owens offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTIONS 2 AND 3 OF ORDINANCE NO.361 OF SAID CITY ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA CREATING A LOCAL DEFENSE COUNCIL AND PRESCRIBING ITS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES." ' to be placed upon its second reading. The Title was then read. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw, Council waive the further reading of this Ordinance. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Owens, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Morden, this Ordinance be adopted as written and ORDINANCE numbered Ordinance No.368. NO.368 Carried by the following vote of the Council: ADOPTED Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Owens, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Malone, the matter of appointing a relief operator MATTER OF for the fire truck be referred to the Fire Committee SUPPLYING with power to act. MEETING Mr. Earl H. Philleo and Mr. E. F. Hinds addressed Council relative to the setting up of the"Minute "MINUTE '� MEN Men" program. PROGRAM Councilman Owens offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS ORDINANCE to be placed on its first reading. READ FOR ' This Ordinance was then read for the first time. FIRST TIME Councilman Bradshaw offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO PLUMBING INSTALLATIONS to be placed on its first reading. ORDINANCE This Ordinance was then read for the first time. READ FOR FIRST TIME Councilman Morden offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE BUILDING CODE.
