The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper and City Clerk. Absent: ROLL CALL City Attorney. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting MINUTES ' of May 18, 1942. The Mayor asked if there were any APPROVED objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of the regular meeting were unanimously approved as written. A petition to hold a Mexican Festival on June 13 MEXICAN and 14 and each Sunday thereafter during the summer FESTIVAL months, was offered by Reverend P. J. McGuinness. REFERRED TO CHIEF POLICE Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Bradshaw this matter be referred to the Chief of Police with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None A letter from Wm. T. Page, President General of The COUNCILMAN United States Flag Association, relative to Flag BRADSHAW Week, was read. APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF It was unanimously agreed the City Clerk advise FLAG WEEK Mr. Page that Mayor Jumper appointed Councilman COMMITTEE Bradshaw to act as Chairman of Flag Week Committee. City Attorney Tscharner entered the meeting and took ' his seat at the Council table. DEFENSE A communication signed by E. H. Philleo and Cornelius COUNCIL Smith, advising Council that the Azusa Defense Council RECOMMENDED recommends the discontinuance of a guard at the City GUARD AT reservoir, was read. RESERVOIR BE No action taken at this time. DISCONTINUED A communication, signed by Ray Lamm, Secretary, Azusa District Council Boy Scouts of America, relative to the collection of papers, was read. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman BOY SCOUT Owens, the City Clerk be authorized and instructed TROOP #1 TO to advise Mr. Lamm that Council will grant the Boy BE GIVEN Scout Troop #1 permission to use a City truck on ASSISTANCE IN Saturday morning once every forty-five days for the PICKING UP collection of papers, the City to furnish the driver. PAPER Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None A communication signed by Archer R. Norcross, District COMMUNICATION ' Manager for American Bitumuls Co., was read. READ Moved and carried that same be placed on file. Councilman Bradshaw offered and Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS to be placed on its second reading. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Bradshaw, that Council waive the further reading of this Ordinance. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman ORDINANCE ' Malone, this Ordinance be adopted as written and NO.369 numbered Ordinance No.369. ADOPTED Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None Councilman Malone reported that garbage should be COUNCILMAN picked up in alley between Sunset and Orange, also MALONE'S that he had received requests for a special water REPORT rate for those who have Victory gardens. No action taken in this matter. Uouncilman Bradshaw reported that he had received a COUNCILMAN request for twelve helmets for use at the fire hall; BRADSHAVJ'S he also reported on a new gun to ecuip police cars. REPORT This matter was referred to Councilman Owens to report back. 7MAIV _ _ 321 MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL MEETING. MONDAY, JUNE 1, 1942 7:30 P.M. Roger Dalton, member of Executive Board of Azusa MR. DALTON Coordinating Council, addressed Council relative ADDRESSED to a donation toward a summer vacation program. COUNCIL Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Morden, the City contribute $225.00 toward the project, provided such procedure is reported legal. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper Noes: None Absent: None Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Councilman Morden, J. 0. Durrell continue as Court Clerk, his salary as such officer, to be $p35.00 per month, effect- ive May 1, 1942.
