CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MONDAY AUGUST -17, 1942. 7:30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Malone,
Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper., City Attorney Tscharner ROLL CALL
and City Clerk. Absent: None.
Each member present acknowledged receipt of a
written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting
of August 3, 1942. The Mayor asked if there were MINUTES APPROVED
any objections or corrections to said minutes.
' There being none, the minutes of the regular meet-
ing were unanimously approved as written.
A request for a transfer of business license from BUSINESS LICENSE
Ramon Torres to Teadore Munoz of #247 Dalton Ave. TRANSFER.
was read.
No action taken in this matter.
A letter signed by Mr. and Mrs Co Roberts of #1032
West 5th Street and one signed by L. G. Smith of
#1040 West 5th Street relative to the appearance PROTEST ON AP -
of the lot on the corner of 5th Street and Virginia PEARANCE OF LOT.
Avenue, was read.
Moved by Mayor Jumper, seconded by Councilman
Bradshaw, this matter be referred to the Board of
Public Works and Police Department, with power to
act.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden,
Jumper, Noes: None. Absent: None.
Marion Bell, employed as a Lineman in the Light
Department, requested a leave of absence for the
Duration.
Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman
Owens, we recommend that Council sitting after the
Duration give the applications of all presentCity CITY EMPLOYEES
Employees who have resigned to aid their Country APPLICATIONS TO
strictly in war work, a preference when there is a BE GIVEN PREFER -
vacancy and if their work has been satisfactory. ENCE AFTER THE

Councilman Malone submitted three bids for the
painting of the adult department of the Azusa
Public Library as follows: BIDS

For the sum of $275.00 I agree to paint the interior
of Azusa Library- 2 coats on walls and ceiling.
3 coats on wood work.
Mrs A. E. Evans of #630 Orange Avenue reported that
she had paid $20.00 to the City of Azusa on December
9, 1941, being a deposit on a sewer connection for

a vacant lot, with the understanding that she con-
struct a building on the lot within the year.
Moved by Mayor Jumper, seconded by Councilman Owens,
the City Clerk be instructed to advise Mrs Evans
that Council will extend the time of construction
for the duration and six months thereafter as build -TIME EXTENDED

to be held at Hermosa Beach, was read and ordered
placed on file.

This estimate does not include moving books etc. - - - $315.00

I herewith submit my estimate and specifications for contemplated
' work on main floor of Azusa City Library. All ceilings and walls
to receive one coat of special primer and one coat washable wall
flat - all woodwork (bookcases excluded) to receive one coat
special primer, one coat of flat, and one coat of eggshell enamel.
For the total amount of labor and material - - - - - - $p450.00

matter be referred to Councilman Malone with power to act.

A communciation from the state Compensation Insurance Fund, re-
lative to a 5% increase in basic rate was read and ordered placed
on file.
Councilman Owens offered a Resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TRE CITY
OF AZUSA, ADOPTING BUDGET SET FORTH IN PROJECT
STATEMENT TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE DIRECTOR OF
PUBLIC WORKS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR
THE EXPENDITURE OF 1/4 CENT GAS TAX ON STREETS
OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING
JUNE 30, 1943, WITHIN THE CITY OF AZUSA.

Councilman Owens offered a Resolution entitled:

ING THE PURCHASE OF A 3/4 TON TRUCK FOR THE RESOLUTION NO.
LIGHT DEPARTMENT, IN OPEN MARKET, AFTER PUBLICA- 1768 ADOPTED
TION FOR BIDS.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman
Bradshaw this,Resolution be adopted as read and
numbered Resolution No. 1768.

Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Council-
man Owens, the,City Clerk be instructed to advertise
for bids on a 1i ton dump truck or chassis, of
certain dimensions to be used by the Sewer CITY CLERK TO

Councilman Malone the matter-of'War Damage
Insurance be referred to the City Attorney
and City Clerk to report back at the next
regular meeting of Council:

Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by
Councilman Owens, the Mayor and City Clerk
' be authorized and instructed to sign con-
tract with the Office of Civilian Defense
OCD Form #501, with Civilian Defense.

Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by
Councilman Malone the Mayor and City Clerk be
authorized and instructed to sign a contract
between the City of Azusa and Harvey Adair
Construction Company relative to rental of one
roller and one motor patrol.

Morden, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Mayor Jumper, seconded by Councilman
Morden, the City purchase Surgical Instruments,
Fifty Cots and two hundred Blankets to equip
the Local First Aid Stations.

Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by
Councilman Malone the following requisitions be
allowed:
