HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - October 5, 1942 - CC (2)Councilman Morden offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DETERMINING THAT PUBLIC NECESSITY AND CONVENIENCE REQUIRE THAT CERTAIN PORTIONS OF TWELFTH STREET, RESOLUT"ON NO ORANGE AVENUE, SUNSET AVENUE, ANGELENO AVENUE, 1772 ADOPTED IRWINDALE AVENUE AND FIRST STREET WITHIN SAID CITY BE IMPROVED FROM GAS TAX FUNDS ALLOCATED BY LOS ANGELES COUNTY OUT OF ITS SHARE OF MONEYS COLLECTED FROM THE LEVY OF SUCH TAXES ON MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL AND DIS- TRIBUTED TO SAID COUNTY BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE 1942-1943 YEAR. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Malone this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1772. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Owens reported on linoleum for Fire Hall COUNCILMAN 377 OWEN'S CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, OCTOBER 51 1942. 7:30 P.M. will pay the cost of repairing Sierra Madre Avenue; The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular g1so that the northwest corner of the Fire Hall had COUNCILMAN session at the above time and place. Councilman Owens reported on linoleum for Fire Hall COUNCILMAN 'and on the trailer to carry additional fire hose. OWEN'S Councilman Malone reported that the Haddock Company REPORT will pay the cost of repairing Sierra Madre Avenue; g1so that the northwest corner of the Fire Hall had COUNCILMAN been repaired. KERCKHOFF_ City Attorney Tscharner reported he had written the CUZNER Co. Santa Fe Railway Company relative to Azusa Avenue crossing, also Werner and Webb relative to the Bucyrus CITY ATTORNEY' Erie Shovel. REPORT ' Councilman Malone offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS AA'GFLES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 10 OF ORDINANCE NO. 355 OF SAID CITY ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES ORDINANCE READ COUNTY, CALIFORNIA REGULATING THE CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLA- FOR FIRST TIME: TION, ALTERATION AND USE OF PUBLIC AND HOUSE CONNECTION SEWERS WITHIN THE CITY OF AZUSA AND PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUING OF PERMITS THEREFOR AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF," AND ALSO ADDING A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 102 TO SAID ORDINANCE OF SAID CITY NUMBERED 355. to be placed upon its first reading. This Ordinance was then read for the first time. 7MA1v MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1942 Councilman Morden offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, DIRECTING THE CITY TREASURER TO MAKE RULES AND REGULATIONS AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO PURCHASE FROM TRUST FUNDS DERIVED THROUGH VOLUNTARY PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS, UNITED STATES SAVINGS BONDS ON BEHALF OF AND TO THE CREDIT OF AND FOR THE ISSUANCE TO OFFICERS AND 01PLOYEES OF THE CITY. 'Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Councilman Malone this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1773. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden, Jumper. Noes: Nones. Absent: None. Councilman Owens offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, RELATIVE TO COOPERATING WITH OTHER POLITICAL ENTITIES WHEN AN EMERGENCY EXISTS UNDER AUTHROITY OF CHAPTER 323 STATUTES OF 1941 AND CHAPTER 1, STATUTES OF 1942. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Bradshaw, this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1774. 'Mayor Jumper stated that he did not know just how soon he would be required to report to the United States Army Engineering Corps and in view of the fact that such a move entailed numerous duties he did not feel he could give the office of Mayor of the City of Azusa the time such an office deserved and therefore re- quested Council to accept his resignation as Mayor and permit him to serve as a Councilman until such time as he received official orders to report for active duty. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Councilman Morden Council accent Mayor Jumper's resignation. MAYOR JUMPER'! Carried by the following vote of the Council: RESIGNATION Ayes: Councilmen: uwens, Malone, Bradshaw, Morden. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Jumper not voting. Councilman Morden nominated Councilman Bradshaw for the office of Mayor. Councilman Bradshaw declined the nomination. Councilman Bradshaw nominated Councilman Malone for NOMINATIONS the office of Mayor. Councilman Jumper moved that nominations be closed. Moved by Co.tncilman Bradshaw, seconded by Councilman Jumper that Councilman Malone be appointed Mayor of COUNCILMAN the City of Azusa. 11ALONE AP- POINTED Carried by the following vote of the Council: MAYOR. Ayes: Councilmen: Malone, Bradshaw, Jumper. Noes: Councilman: Morden, Owens. Absent: None. Mayor Malone took the chair vacated by Mayor Jumper and asked if there was any further business to come before Council.
