HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - February 1, 1943 - CC421 CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11 1943. 7:30 P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meet- ing of January 18th. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said ' minutes. There being none, the minutes of January 18, 1943, were approved as written. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Bradshaw and duly carried the Council adjourn to the office of the City Clerk to reconvene at 7:40 P.M. where the meeting was continued. Mr. Robinson addressed the Council and stated he Could not give an opinion on the claim of the Associated Assessment Engineers until he had checked it. A letter from Mrs Miller was read and ordered placed on file. A letter signed by the Secretary of the Azusa Women's Club, was read and ordered placed on file. A notice of renewal of Insurance Policy from the Associated Telephone Co., was read and ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Morden, the following business men be granted ' City business for the month of February: Ambulance - D. B. White. Doctor - Dr. Hankins First Aid - Foothill Drug. Garage - Tony's Garage, Truck Service - Kraft's. Hardware - Spriggs Bros. Lumber - Williams. Paint - Morgan Hdw. Restaurant Gold Nugget. Tires - C. H. Howard. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owans, Bradshaw, Lamm, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter, offered by the State Compensation Insurance Fund relative to Edmund Thompson's condition after extended medical treatment, was read. It was unanimously agreed this matter be referred to the Chairman of Police Committee and the Chief of Police. Councilman Morden offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH DEFENSE . PLANT CORPORATION, AN AGENCY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND AEROJET ENGINEERING CORPORATION. ' Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Owens, this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1781. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Bradshaw reported that all the Service Stations, closed for the Duration, had been checked and tanks found to be securely locked. Also that a number of "No Shooting" signs were ready to be posted in the brush land area of the City. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Lamm, this matter be referred to the Chairman of the Board of Public Works, and the Chairman of the Fire Committee, with power to a ct. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Bradshaw, Lamm. Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Street Superintendent A. Wolfe addressed -Council requesting permission to replace the bucket on Bucyrus Erie Shovel with a boom, at a cost to the City of not more than $200.00. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Owens, this matter be referred to the Chair- man of Board of Public Works, the City Attorney and Street Superintendent, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. The following appeared before Council relative to an incident arising out of instructions on work necessary, to complete the construction of a Control Center: Mr. V. D. Smith, James Alexander, I. R. Calvert, Frank Poetker, Charles Clark and S. C. Bierbower. No action taken in this matter. Moved by Councilman Lamm, seconded by Councilman Owens, the following requisitions be allowed: #1596-1597-1598-1599-1600. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None.
