HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 1, 1943 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, MARCH 1, 1943. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meet- ing of February 15th and the special meeting of February 13, 1943. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. T here being none, the minutes of February 13th, and February 15, 1943, were approved as written. ' A letter from the League of California Cities relative to the March meeting of Mayors and Council- men, was read. Moved and carried the Clerk be instructed to answer this letter advising Mr. Graves, Secretary of the League, the City Council is in favor of the meeting being held in the City of Los Angeles during the month of March. The annual report of the Southern Counties Gas Company was read and ordered placed on file. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Morden and duly carried the following business men be given the City Business for the month of March: D. B. White, Dr. Cook, Richter's Drug Store, Knights Garage, Union Oil Company, Morgan Hardware, Williams Lumber, Spriggs Hardware, Fordfs Lunch and C. H. Howard. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone, Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Councilman Morden offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, EXTENDING LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Owens, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1784. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw, the Clerk be instructed to send a written copy of the Resolution No. 1784 to Mr. Wm. F. Zerell. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Owens presented the matter of opening a Volunteer Office for the Civilian Defense Council. ' He stated it would require some remodeling of the building now occupied by the American Red Cross and the purchase of a desk, filing equipment etc. He explained the need of one paid assistant who could serve as a secretary in this work. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by C ouncil- man Lamm, Councilman Owens, be granted permission to remodel the interior of the building now occupied by the American Red Cross, to purchase necessary office equipment and to contact some one who would be qualified to act as secretary at a salary not to exceed 675.00 per month. 7:30 P.M. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Council- man Owens, the annual contract for the purchase of incandescent lamps be referred to the Superintendent of Light and Power, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Bradshaw the following requisitions be allowed: 7:30 P.M. 433 PURCHASE OF'STREET LAMPS REFERRED TO V. D. SMITH. REQUISITIONS ALLOWED. #1663-1664-1665-1666-1667-1668-1669-1670. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None.
