Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden Malone, City Attorney Tscharner, and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meet- ing of March 1, 1943. The Mayor asked if there were any objections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of March 1, 1943 were approved as read. A suggestion for the improvement of west Foot- hill Blvd. was offered by C. H. Putnam. Moved and carried that same be placed on file for the present. Mr. Nicholas and Mr. Charner of the Calif- ornia Brined Fruit Co. addressed Council relative to sewage problems in connection with the operation of their Plant in case they locate on west Foothill Blvd. No action taken in the matter at this time. A letter addressed to Council and signed by Walter E. Meyer, Patrolman in the Police Dept., asking for a Military Leave of Absence for the Duration, was read. Councilman Bradshaw offered a Resolution en- titled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, GRANTING LEAVE OF ABSENCE TO WALTER E. MEYER CITY EMPLOYEE. ' Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Owens, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1785. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter of resignation signed by Paul E. Smith Patrolman in Police Department, was read. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Councilman ROLL TALL MINUTES APPROVED MR. PUTNAM'S LETTER TASLED. CALIFORNIA FRUIT BRINED CO. WALTER E. MEYER LEAVE OF ABSENCE. RESOLUTION NO. 1785 ADOPTED. PAUL E. SMITH'S RESIGNATION. APPLICATIONS ORDERED PLACED ON FILE. Lamm this resignation be accepted, that Mr. Smith be given a two weeks vacation with pay, that the Chief of Police be instructed to issue Mr. Smith a War Manpower Commission Availability Certificate, and the City Clerk instructed to write Mr. Smith expressing Councils appreciation for the services rendered this community during the time he served as Patrol- man. Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. ' Noes: None. Absent: None. Two applications for work in the Police Depart- ment were presented; one by Mr. A. B. Claflin and one by Frank Davies. Moved by Councilman Bradshaw, seconded by Council- man Lamm the applications be referred to the Chief of Police with the power of selection, subject to the approval of the City Council. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- RESOLUTION NO. man Lamm this Resolution be adopted as read 1786 ADOPTED. and numbered Resolution No. 1786. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilman: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. ' Noes: None, Absent::None. Councilman Morden offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPROPRIATING MONEYS FOR ADVERTISING PURPOSES IN BEHALF OF SAID CITY TO BE DONE RESOLUTION NO. THROUGH THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF AZUSA, AND 1787 ADOPTED. RESCINDING RESOLUTIONS No. 1609-1541 and No. 1457. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Lamm, this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1787. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. . Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Council- mah Bradshaw, the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for sale parcels „A. B. C. D. E. F. CITY CLERK and G. all in Lot No. 66 of Subdivision No. 2 INSTRUCTED TO Azusa Land and Water Company. I ADVERTISE FOR Carried by the following vote of the Council: BIDS. Ayes: Councilmen: Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Owens not voting. V. D. Smith addressed Council relative to the SALE OF COPPER sale of copper as per Federal regulation. No action taken. It was unanimously agreed that the City Attorney write a letter to Mr. Schweitzer relative to CITY ATTORNEY TO the hog ranch in the south west portion of the WRITE MR.SCHWEIT- City. ER. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Morden the following requisitions be allowed: #1671-1672-1673-1604-1605-1606-1607-1608. REQUISITIONS ALLOWED. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Co,ncilmen: Owens, Lamm, Bradshaw, Morden, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' The matter of the City supplying water to Victory Gardens was again discussed and tabled VICTORY GARDENS until Mr. Smith submits further information.
